A number of gunmen stormed into a sizable concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow on Friday, dousing the crowd with automatic gunfire. The attack left at least 40 people dead, over 100 injured, and the venue in flames. This heinous act came just days after President Vladimir Putin solidified his hold on power with a meticulously planned campaign victory.
Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, called the incident a "huge tragedy" and said that terrorism is being looked into by state authorities. As Russia's conflict in Ukraine entered its third year, the nation was hit by its worst strike in years, leaving the music venue in flames with a collapsing roof.
In a statement shared on social media sites connected to them, the Islamic State organization took credit for the attack. The organization claimed to have killed and injured hundreds of Christians during an attack on a sizable Christian gathering in Krasnogorsk, a city outside of Moscow, Russia, in a statement released by its Aamaq news agency. It was not able to confirm the claim's veracity right away.
