Proverbs 22:29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

What the scripture means here is that if there be a man that is consistent and hardworking, he shall reap the fruit of his labour, this means that hard work pays. Whatever a man has achieved in life today is a function of how much function he has put into it.
