STEEMCHURCH: Celestial Challenge - Structures. The Castle San Carlos de Borromeo, Isla de Margarita, Venezuela.
The Castle San Carlos de Borromeo, is a military construction of the era of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, located in the Bay of Pampatar, Isla de Margarita, Venezuela. Its construction took approximately 20 years, started in 1622, 40 years later the castle was completely destroyed by pirates and 2 years later it began to be rebuilt; culminating this construction 20 years later, in 1684. In the ensuing years the castle was destroyed and rebuilt many times.
The design of the castle was the work of military engineer Don Juan Betín. It was the most advanced and important military construction for the time on the island, as it defended the strategic area of Pampatar against pirates and corsairs.
Its base has a star shape consisting of 4 bastions in the corners and 4 central curtains. It is accessed inside by a lift bridge. It is a castle of the "regular" type, which means that its bastions and curtains have the same or similar dimension. As a curious fact, because of an error of the architect, the pit that filled with water should protect it even more from assaults on foot, never fulfilled its purpose, because it was built well above sea level and could never be filled.
Construction materials were Blocks of mortar and mollusc shells.
I chose this structure from my beautiful country because there are currently no modern architectures like in other countries but this structure is of great cultural value for our nation. I know that I will be a prosperous, modern, technological country full of God's presence.
