A treacherous identification
In addition to serving as a visible indicator of devotion to the Antichrist, the mark will be the obligatory identification in any commercial transaction in the last half of the Tribulation (Rev. 13.17). This was always the dream of all the tyrants in history - to exercise such absolute control over their vassals about to decide who can buy and who can sell.
