The pearl of great price is Jesus.

Jesus suffered pain. He was persecuted. It was mocked. They beat him and nailed him to a cross. Jesus suffered pain! He suffered pain but was not offended. The children of God are not offended (Psalm 119: 165). The children of God do suffer pain when confronted by iniquity. On the cross, Jesus expressed his attitude toward those who offended him in this way, "Father forgive them because they do not know what they are doing." Jesus turned his pain into a pearl. Christ became the pearl of great price through pain. "who, when they cursed him, did not answer with a curse: when he suffered, he did not threaten, but commanded the cause of him who judges righteously" (I Peter 2:23).
