KNOWING HIM (JESUS) PERSONALLY.

"Knowing" Jesus means having a relationship with Him. A Christian does not only know about Christ, but a Christian also knows Christ personally . When Jesus prayed in John 17:3 , He stated that eternal life is knowing the one true God and the Son whom He sent.

One way to get to know God is to really prove to yourself that He exists. After all, thinking about or talking to someone who isn’t there would be fruitless and lonely! So the first step in knowing God is to know —prove, prove some more, and reflect on that proof—that He exists.

To know Christ personally means to get to know Him as you would a friend. In a friendship you spend time with the other person, and you have vulnerable conversations. Talking regularly is an important part of a relationship. To know Jesus is not just to read about Him educationally, but also to spend time understanding who He is.

First John 5:20 says, "And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life." We should pray for understanding so that we can know Jesus and, consequently, know God.

What does it take to begin a relationship with God? Devote yourself to unselfish religious deeds? Become a better person so that God will accept you?

You may be surprised that none of those things will work. But God has made it very clear in the Bible how we can know Him.

The following principles will explain how you can personally begin a relationship with God, right now, through Jesus Christ…

HOW TO KNOW JESUS MORE

1. Have an open heart

Ask God to give you an open heart to learn more about the Lord. A mind clogged with philosophy and traditions of men will find it difficult to know the Lord more. There is need for you to have an open mind towards the gospel of Jesus so He can reveal Himself to you.

2. Observe how Christ works in your life. By paying attention to how the Lord operates, you’ll become familiar with His ways and goals.

2. Ask for the help of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is there to reveal Christ to you, so engage His help. He is the most authentic person to consult about Jesus. Just ask Him to teach you more about Jesus and expect Him to do so and I tell you He will.

3. Study the bible

If you want to know more about anybody, read about the person. Likewise, if you want to know Jesus more, study the bible. The scriptures, from Genesis to revelation, are centred on Jesus Christ. They talk about Him; Jesus is the word of God. Also, the Word is spirit and life and so it imparts your life. No man or written materials can

correctly inform you about Christ better than the bible.

4. Pray

The longer you stay with an individual, the better you know him or her. So also, the more time you spend fellowshipping with God in prayer, the better you get to know Jesus. This is because you can’t get to the father except through Jesus; your prayer is in the name of Jesus and your fellowship is with God the father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. 

5. Be thankful and praise-full

You can’t learn much about the Lord without a heart of gratitude. God inhabits the praises of His people. A heart full of Praise and thanksgiving attracts Jesus anytime and anywhere. And when He comes He reveals Himself to the person. Praise invokes revelations from God, including revelations about Christ.

6. Be obedient

Obedience opens you up to deeper knowledge of Christ. It is an important step on how to know Jesus more. Jesus reveals Himself to those who obey His commands. You will know Christ more as you obey His instructions.

7. Be open for correction

When you are not open to corrections from Jesus you cut yourself off from Him. Through corrections from the Lord, we are delivered from the evil one. And anybody who hates correction cannot know the Lord more and is heading for a disaster.

8.Make Jesus your top priority. Be willing to lay aside anything that competes with your loyalty and devotion to Him.

In conclusion, No matter where you are in your walk with Christ, it’s never too late to begin pursuing a deeper relationship with Him. Whether you’re already passionate about Jesus or know Him only on a surface level, it is wise to do as Paul urged—to “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” ( Phil. 3:14 ).
