Excellency of God

Psalm 8:1-9, Isaiah 40:12-18

Psalms 8:1 (To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David.) O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Excellence means extremely good, outstanding, superior and sovereignty and so is our God. He is excellent in all ways. Different definitions and illustrations has been used to describe and explained the excellency of God. Based on the encounter people have with God. When he provided a pressing need for ABRAHAM,

Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

He called him Jehovah Jireh, when he gave him the children of Istreal victory over the Amelekite just by the lifting of the hand of Moses, he was called Jehovah Nissi,

Exodus 17:15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

One interesting thing about these names is that they express God in such a way that He can’t be compared with anyone or any other thing.

Psalms 148:13 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

HOW EXCELLENT ISNOUR GOD

The sturdy of God excellence cannot be exhausted, it is like sturding God himself. You will discover that the more you know about him, the more you see the need to know more. But for the purpose of this piece, we will be considering the topic under two outlines which are

HIS EXCELLENT NATURE

A person’s nature shows who he is. God’s nature describes His personality and essence.

These qualities is what make him God

• Revealer of secret

Genesis 41:16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

• His excellent wisdom

Romans 16:27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen. (Written to the Romans from Corinthus, and sent by Phebe servant of the church at Cenchrea.)

• His name is excellent

Psalms 148:13 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

• His name is greatness

Psalms 150:2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

• His excellent love

Ephesians 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

• His loving kindness

Psalms 36:7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

HIS EXCELLENT WAYS

While God’s nature talks Hos excellent personality, His ways tells us about His excellent doings. No one gives what he does not have. You only manifest the personality you possess. God’s excellent ways shows us how God manifest His nature through His doings. For instance, His excellent love led to His excellent giving

Romans 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

Anytime God want to do something spectacular in any through the lives of a set of people, he reveal Himself and make his way know to them

Psalms 103:7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

• Excellent mercy

Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

• Just God and a saviour

Isaiah 45:21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

• Excellent Grace

Ephesians 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

• His mighty act

Psalms 106:2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?

In conclusion

Our God is excellent in all things and so are we. He’s not just excellent doings. His excellent within and without and that His expectations for our lives too. His excellent spirit dwells in us, but it must not remains at that level. We must manifest it in our daily living and allow the light of His Glory to shine through our conduct.
