How Should We Treat The Elderly?
I came across this in a newspaper. During the summer of 2003, thousands died all across Europe as a result of one of the worst heat waves to hit the continent in 60 years. Most of the dead were the elderly. The newspaper reported that in Paris alone, 450 corpses were left unclaimed. Now, here's my question, "In what kind of condition are we living that we forget about our fathers, mothers, grandparents?"
Our creator has keen interest in the elderly. In fact his word the Bible, gives us directions on how they are to be treated.
Let's consider them together.
God's law given to Moses promoted respect for the elderly. The law stated : "Before gray hair you should rise up, and you must show consideration for the person of an old man." (Leviticus19:32) Obedient worshippers of God were expected to "rise up" before the elderly, signifying ;
- as a sign of respect for an old person and,
- and evidence of the worshipers reverential fear of God.
Although Christians today are not under the Mosaic Law, it's principles reveal the thoughts and priorities of the true God, leaving no doubt that he holds the elderly in high regard.
As servants of God, we need no legislation to treat older ones with dignity and respect. Here's the example of Joseph, who spared no expense in bringing his elderly father to Egypt, saving the 130 year old Jacob from a widespread famine. On catching sight of his father for the first time in more than two decades, Joseph "at one fell upon his neck and gave way to tears upon his neck again and again. " (Genesis 46:29)
God does not abandon his loyal ones. The psalmist prayed: "Do not throw me away in the times of old age ; just when my power is falling, do leave me. " God does not throw away his faithful servants even when they themselves may feel that they have outlived their time of usefulness. The psalmist did not feel abandoned by God;rather, he recognized his own need to rely on his maker even more as he grew older.
In view of the above, it is clear a that those who want to honor God must also honor the elderly. Old ones are indeed precious in the eyes of our creator. As creatures made in his image, may we always manifest a godly view of "gray headedness.".
What a fine writeup! It's something we all should think about. In many parts of the world today, many young ones tend not to respect these elderly ones. But as christians, we know that these elderly ones were once young and they are feel with experiences and knowledge. We do well to imitate them, because we will get there someday. Thanks for sharing.
It's good we learn to treat everyone with respect. The bible says that there is wisdom in gray headedness. We want to repect these old ones around us and tap from their wisdom.
Thanks for sharing with the Church.

It is certain that you who is young and agile will one day become old and that's why you need to threat the old ones with care.
Jacob gave his old father what his father desires and his father in return gave him his blessings.
Let's not feel that we can do anything to the elderly without receiving penalty for it
The elderly are our symbolism of wisdom as younger people, the elderly ones are our aged fathers and mothers who are our source of knowledge our fountain of guidance even when we are lost, they're there to guide us because of their fountain of experiences.
That's why we must respect care for them, nurture them, and help them in anyway they need, in so doing we are attracting long life for ourselves.
It's something we as a whole should consider. In numerous parts of the world today, numerous youthful ones tend not to regard these elderly ones. In any case, as christians, we realize that these elderly ones were once youthful and they are feel with encounters and learning. We do well to impersonate them, since we will arrive sometime in the future.
in this life, parents are very important to us, we are obliged to make our parents happy, because if we make our parents sad, then God will be angry to us, we prefer our parents more than wife or husband. That way, then God will give us happiness in the world and in the afterlife. Thanks for sharing... :)
This my field. As a social worker, my expierences with the aged, has been filled with more wisdom
It it said that what an elder see siting down, the young can not see at the highest mountain.
In our traditional community, the elder hold word of wisdom that is needed for a longive community.
There need can never be over estimated.
Respect the old and care for them.
This is a very significant message as God's continue to bless you. Our creator has keen interest in the elderly. In fact his word the Bible, gives us directions on how they are to be treated.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
It is hard to crush a propensity, yet with God's assistance this can be possible. When we show certainty and trust in God, he will help us in beating the addictive stage. In any case, it's best to surrender. This is a fundamental writeup for some youngsters who are as of now subject to drugs.
It's great we figure out how to approach everybody with deference. The book of scriptures says that there is astuteness in dark headedness. We need to repect these old ones around us and tap from their knowledge.
