Idolatry.

"Raise your eyes to the desolate heights, and see if there is a place where you have not prostituted yourself. Along the roads you sat for them like an Arab in the desert, and with your fornications and your wickedness you have polluted the earth."

When we talk about idolatry, we are not simply talking about making a small image to worship it. Anything to which man gives himself unconditionally is idolatry. The Bible teaches that greed is idolatry, because when a person covets something, he dedicates his time and energy to achieve it. Especially in recent times we see many people dedicated to committing any type of sin, and the energy they devote to it is tremendous. But, at the moment when man departs, he moves away from the living God, he will turn to anything. It will be something that he has devised or done, which will become his god, his idol.
Dr. Campbell Morgan has written very clearly the following statement about the nature of idolatry, and about the worship of the true God. "When a man makes a god according to the norms or model of his own being, he makes a god like himself; it is an extension or extension of his own imperfection. Moreover, the god that man makes for himself will demand he that which is in accordance with his own nature ... Men are faithful to those gods who do not ask for anything that is not in harmony with the desires of their own hearts.When God calls man, it is the call of a God holy; of a God of purity; of a God of love. And He demands that man rise to His height. He cannot accommodate the depravity of the nature of human beings. He does not consent to the things that they they desire within them and that they be impurity and evil. He wants to elevate men, so that they reach even higher, until they reach the height of perfect conformity with His holiness. God's call to humanity is always first pure and then peaceful; first holy and then f eliz; first just and then cheerful. " So far the statement of Dr. Campbell Morgan.

So God clearly said that Jeremiah's generation in the kingdom of Judah had unconditionally surrendered to idolatry. And as a result, there was great immorality in that town. When He said: Raise your eyes to the desolate heights one must understand how outrageously immoral those high places were. A high place was a grove of trees on which an altar had been built. There were celebrated all kinds of sexual orgies and alcoholic excesses. Actually, the people of Judah had fallen very low.

And again the analogy is obvious, don't you think? Contemporary society in general has abandoned the true and living God, which is obvious in the moral condition of many people, for whom the only limitations in that area are those that allow circumstances. The lack of respect for the laws, evident in subterfuges to circumvent more legal norms, dishonesty and corruption seem to extend in many social sectors. The conversation and vocabulary descend from level and reflect the trend we are describing, even from childhood and adolescence.
