The courage to change

Life is adventures can be burdensome,uncomfortable or out rightly cruel.Perhaps,not through ones misdoings but from the demand of society,exerting a coercive force on people,and defining acceptable norms which may not neccessarily be the best,nor be of any significant positive value.yet one is compelled to conform if only to avoid being tagged an outlaw.
We celebrate birth,in appreciation of a new life and in gratitude to God.some celebrations are lavish with gifts packs for guests.some last all night long with dancing,eating and drinking,almost to the point of revelry.this is a celebration of life.And still we celebrate death most often than not in a more extravagant way than births for many communities.we make merry over the death of thirty,forty,fifty year olds,not considering that old age is far from these.so long as the dead is a parent or grandparent,this suffices for the criteria for a joyous funeral ceremony,marked with feasting by a whole community.

The ceremony itself seems to be the major Determininant of funeral of the dead,rather than the act of interment .thus when a man is dead is buried quietly without fanfare,the community would not accept that he had been buried until the funeral rite is performed accompained with feasting even if this is done decades after the death.
For many people probably,these traditional more are repulsive but they would still observr them amidst silent grumbling while others would pray for their eradication.
We move with crowd.We obey all the traditions of our people.we claim to have our own mind,to be independent and non-aligned,in spectrum of acceptability as dictated subtly by social norms.
In the life of every man,there ought to be a time to take a definite stand on certain issues,a time to conform and go along with crowd and a time to refuse to follow the masses even if this mean one is alone.This calls for steadfastness,being principal,not easily swayed by every wind of tradition.
What does it take to be firm and speak out for the truth?Understanding?Knowledge?Or Courage?
The courage to change could be best be described with reference to the bible passage in Ecclesiastes.
The courage to change unpleasant situations demands wisdom to recognize different season for every purpose and then,make a move.this way,one would be saved from cumbersome,unproductive traditions such as compulsory funeral ceremonies for a person dead and interred a long time before!
