It Is Terrible To Have No Faith

Few of us believe that we suffer with lack of faith. Pastors speak only of the power of faith. There are several and several books talking about faith. Great projects have been made in the name of faith. But if that is true, why did Jesus say that? There is a clue to the answer to this question in Paul's Letter to the Hebrews:

"Beware, brethren, lest any of you have a perverse and unbelieving heart, that depart from the living God, on the contrary, encourage one another every day, during the time that is called today, so that none of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin "(Hebrews 3: 12-13).

We distance ourselves from God because we doubt his fidelity. Do not let disbelief create roots. Sometimes, God may seem distant, but never doubt the faithfulness of Him. I want to show the seriousness that is the lack of faith in our lives:

1. Unbelief is the sin that irritates God the most

In Exodus 17, Israel arrives in a desert called "Yes." It is not water and people, nervous, Moses blames: "For this reason he complained to Moses and demanded: 'Give us water to drink', he replied 'Why do not you complain to me Why put the? Lord to test? But the people were thirsty and they complained to Moses: 'Why did you bring us out of Egypt to kill our thirst, our children and our cattle?' "(Exodus 17: 2,3).

The people treated Moses as an operator of miracles, but none of those people prayed believing: "If God has done wonders, He opened the sea, He will give us water." In the face of such a claim, the Lord told Moses to reach a rock and hit it with his staff. Then the rivers of water flowed and quenched the thirst of the people. But God was very angry with the attitude of those people: "And he called the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites complained and put the Lord to the test, saying: 'The Lord is among us, or not'" (Exodus 17 : 7).

God was not angry with the complaints themselves, but because of people's lack of faith, even though he had operated great miracles in their lives.

1. Unbelief prevents liberation from the power of sin

All cause of sin is unbelief. Many have already given up fighting sin and then God does not bless them. He only blesses and has patience with which he abhors sin and fights against it. Paul says it in Romans 7:24 when he said, "O wretched man of me, who shall deliver me from this body of death!" (Romans 7:24)

But the next verse, the apostle adds: "Thank God for Jesus Christ our Lord. So with the mind I myself am a slave to the law of God, but with the flesh to the law of sin" (Romans 7:25).

Many believers want to overcome sin with their own strength. But that's not how it works, "Because we do not have a high priest who can not sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who, like us, went through all kinds of temptation, but without sin, so they come close." On the throne of grace with confidence, that to reach mercy and find grace to help us in times of need "(Hebrews 4: 15,16).

1. Unbelief blocks our ears to God

Zacarias was the father of the prophet John the Baptist. He was a man of God, serious, faithful and awaited the coming of the Messiah. But he doubted the promise and did not understand when God spoke with him. Consider the following:

He was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and offer incense. When it came time to offer incense, the whole town was praying from the outside. Then an angel of the Lord appeared to Zacharias, to the right of the altar of incense. When Zacarias saw him, he was disturbed and was overcome by fear. But the angel said to him: 'Do not be afraid, Zacarias; his prayer was heard. Isabel, his wife, will give you a son, and you will give him the name of Juan. He will be a source of pleasure and joy for you, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the eyes of the Lord. He will never drink wine or fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit from before his birth. It will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord, their God. And he will go before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to leave a people prepared for the Lord. Zacarias asked the angel: How can I be sure of that? I am old, and my wife is elderly. The angel replied:I am Gabriel, who is always in the presence of God. He sent me to transmit this good news. Now you stay mute. He will not be able to speak until the day that happens, because he did not believe in my words, which will be fulfilled at the opportune time. (Luke 1: 1-20)

Instead of looking at the power of God, Zacarias saw the limitations that his age imposed on the possibility that he and his wife had a child and, therefore, paid a high price. Then, do not be like him: look at the greatness of the Lord and trust in his infinite power.
