The book of Jonah teaches that salvation is not by works, but by faith that leads to repentance. This short book is read by the Jews on the Great Day of Atonement, on the so-called Yom Kippur. The road that leads to God does not consist in works of human justice that we can perform, but by the blood of the substitutionary sacrifice provided by the Lord. The most significant statement of the book of Jonah is found in the second chapter, and in verse 9: Salvation comes from the Lord! He is the author of salvation; He chose the great building of our salvation. He is the architect.
