This morning I woke with a vigor, rose quickly and said in my mind, "today is the day of the Lord". Its a phrase God's being speaking over me lately and when God repeats Himself we better listen.

Today is the day of the Lord. The phrase is loaded with biblical judgement, and God's wrath.

Isaiah 13:9-11 King James Version (KJV)

9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

What if we lived like the Lord God was coming back today? How might our awe and reverence convict our hearts?

Were it true, were this the last minute of fallen creation, shouldn't that change our attention, efforts and momentum completely?

So I decided today I am going to fast, pray and meditate on God's Word, so as to draw nearer God. Part of that is to study and write on whatever He inspires. These steps might seem small but they are not. Each moment we surrender to God is eternally significant. God deserves our praise, and it does our brokenness good to look upon His glory and be humbled.

God longs that we should come completely under His glory, not just when we see fit to do so, but always and forever. Yes because He is worthy of all praise, but also for our own greatest joy and good.

So choosing to declare this day is God's is itself a declaration of war. A battle against worldly temptation, stepping past distraction to glorify God: to look upon His power and be awed.

Prayer & Praise | Thank you Lord

Today is a gift from God.
Today I will acknowledge His sovereignty.
Today I will admit my sin and pray His good works in mean might be completed, despite me.
Lord help me hear your call and follow.
You are so worthy and lovely, so powerful and wonderful.

May we all be transformed by the truth that "today is the day of the Lord". Whether He literally returns in this moment or not, He is over it. He is sovereign and just and His wrath comes. May we all hear these truths and be brought to our knees before You Lord. You define purpose, help us walk and listen to Your ways. Lord, I surrender anew to you King Jesus, give me strength to come closer today.

Search my heart of Lord, wash away my pride and haughtiness. And remember your love for Jesus, my Saviour, as you look upon my wretchedness.

Romans 2:16

16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

Lord all good works are by your power and your Spirit, let not my selfish broken heart lead me astray. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
