Let's listen to God when he tells us to wait, this also brings blessings.

15 For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In rest and quiet you will be saved; In stillness and confidence will be your strength. And you did not want to, 16 but you said, No, rather we will flee on horses; therefore you will flee. On swift steeds we will ride; Therefore, your pursuers will be swift. 17 A thousand will flee at the threat of one; You will all flee from the threat of five, until you remain like a mast on the top of a mountain, and like a flag on a hill.
Promise of God's grace to Israel
18 Therefore the LORD will wait to have mercy on you, and therefore he will be exalted to have mercy on you; because Jehovah is a just God; blessed are all those who trust in him. 19 Surely the people will dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you will never cry again; He who has mercy will have mercy on you; When he hears the voice of your cry he will answer you.
20 Although the Lord will give you bread of affliction and water of anguish, yet your teachers will never again be taken away from you, but your eyes will see your teachers. 21 Then your ears will hear a word behind you saying, This is the way, walk in it; and do not cast at the right hand, nor twist at the left hand.

During the turbulent times described in today's reading, God showed the people of Israel how they could emerge victorious. They were under threat from Assyria, and God told them to wait for rescue rather than try quick solutions like fleeing to Egypt for protection. Jesus' merciful demands for those awaiting recovery were repentance, rest, serenity, and confidence.

Unfortunately, the Israelis "didn't want it." Some people simply run away and encounter disaster. This is a stark reminder that if we rely on our own efforts, we can easily fail. So how can we learn to accept God's invitation to trust and rest when we are tempted to take matters into our own hands?

But this is our hope. No matter how difficult our circumstances may seem, God is our constant source of comfort and "an ever-present helper in trouble." It is our trust in God's character and patience that allows us to feel peace even when chaos surrounds us. We serve a merciful and just God who wants to set us free. Our decision to rest is an act of trust. In fact, “Blessed are all those who trust in him.”

18 Therefore the LORD will wait to have mercy on you, and therefore he will be exalted to have mercy on you; because Jehovah is a just God; blessed are all those who trust in him.

Y no quisisteis, 16 sino que dijisteis: No, antes huiremos en caballos; por tanto, vosotros huiréis. Sobre corceles veloces cabalgaremos; por tanto, serán veloces vuestros perseguidores. 17 Un millar huirá a la amenaza de uno; a la amenaza de cinco huiréis vosotros todos, hasta que quedéis como mástil en la cumbre de un monte, y como bandera sobre una colina.

18 Por tanto, Jehová esperará para tener piedad de vosotros, y por tanto, será exaltado teniendo de vosotros misericordia; porque Jehová es Dios justo; bienaventurados todos los que confían en él. 19 Ciertamente el pueblo morará en Sion, en Jerusalén; nunca más llorarás; el que tiene misericordia se apiadará de ti; al oír la voz de tu clamor te responderá.
20 Bien que os dará el Señor pan de congoja y agua de angustia, con todo, tus maestros nunca más te serán quitados, sino que tus ojos verán a tus maestros. 21 Entonces tus oídos oirán a tus espaldas palabra que diga: Este es el camino, andad por él; y no echéis a la mano derecha, ni tampoco torzáis a la mano izquierda.

Durante los tiempos turbulentos descritos en la lectura de hoy, Dios mostró al pueblo de Israel cómo podían salir victoriosos. Estaban bajo la amenaza de Asiria, y Dios les dijo que esperaran el rescate en lugar de intentar soluciones rápidas como huir a Egipto en busca de protección. Las demandas misericordiosas de Jesús para quienes esperaban la recuperación fueron arrepentimiento, descanso, serenidad y confianza.

Desafortunadamente, los israelíes "no lo querían". Algunas personas simplemente huyen y se encuentran con el desastre. Este es un claro recordatorio de que si confiamos en nuestros propios esfuerzos, podemos fracasar fácilmente. Entonces, ¿cómo podemos aprender a aceptar la invitación de Dios a confiar y descansar cuando nos vemos tentados a tomar el asunto en nuestras propias manos?

Pero esta es nuestra esperanza. No importa cuán difíciles puedan parecer nuestras circunstancias, Dios es nuestra fuente constante de consuelo y "un ayudante siempre presente en los problemas". Es nuestra confianza en el carácter y la paciencia de Dios lo que nos permite sentir paz incluso cuando el caos nos rodea. Servimos a un Dios misericordioso y justo que quiere hacernos libres. Nuestra decisión de descansar es un acto de confianza. De hecho, “Bienaventurados todos los que en él confían”.
