Wrong Practices Christians Should Avoid

It is the delight of the Lord that we emulate what is good and practice it as christians. There are many good practices that a lot of Christians do either in a wrong way or at the wrong time and that's what make them become wrong.

Something can be right but if it is not done in the right way, at right time and with the right motive it becomes bad. Join me as we study some of the things Christians do wrongly and how we can avoid them:

Doing good deeds publicly or before men

TAKE CARE not to do your good deeds publicly or before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you will have no reward [[a]reserved for and awaiting you] with and from your Father Who is in heaven. Mathew 6:1

God is good... all the time and all the time... God is good" This is a popular greetings or slogan people say to one another in many denominations. Indeed God is good and He wants us to also do good.

Giving alms and rendering help in various forms to people is something the Holy Scriptures commands us to do especially for the needy or the poor. However we are not to do them in a wrong way that is doing it before men to be noticed.

We should not be like the hypocrites who always expect people to acknowledge their good deeds and praise them. Such have already received their rewards from men and not God.

Thus, whenever you give to the poor, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites in the synagogues and in the streets like to do, that they may be [b]recognized and honored and praised by men. Truly I tell you, they have their reward [c]in full already. Mathew 6:2

It is the Lord who rewards or blesses us for every little thing we do and not man. God sees everything we do either in secret or in public and this is why he does not want us to blow the trumpet announcing our good works.

Good deeds must be done In Secret
Jesus showed us the best way to do our charitable deeds or to do good, He said:

But when you give to charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, So that your deeds of charity may be in secret; and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly. Mathew 6:3-4

God expect us to always hide the good works we do for others. Works of charity must be hidden from everyone especially people who are closer to us, who, if they knew, would hinder us from receiving our rewards from God.

God wants us to even go farther; and conceal them as far as is possible from ourselves, that is not thinking about them with pride. Giving to the needy or the poor is giving to God and He alone has a great reward for such deed and so we must learn to do it in a right way always.
