The Solid Foundation and The Weak Foundation: Where Have You built Your Hopes?

in #steemchurch6 years ago (edited)

Any good contractor who wants to build a great and strong building will first consider its foundation. So much has to be done on the foundation if the building must be strong. The contractor cannot do away with materials such as sand, cement, water, stones or rocks and iron rods if he wants his building to stand firm and remain unshaken by the elements.

The same thing applies to our Christian life. We need a strong foundation to be able to stand on the solid rock which is Christ. Our ability to stand at all times for the Lord depends on the kind of foundation we have laid and built on.

There are two types of Christians and they are grouped base on the kind of foundation they lay on Christ and the strength of their foundations are determined their response to God's word. Jesus shows us the two types of people in Luke 6 and then goes on to explain how each one builds their foundation:

I will show you what everyone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them.

Those who build on the Rock

They are like a person building a house, who dug a deep hole to lay the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the floodwaters pushed against that house but couldn’t shake it, because it had been founded on the rock. Luke 6:48

The first people are those who who dig deep and lay their foundation on a rock.. They are people whose hope of salvation is built on no other but Christ alone. They are those who hears God's word and not only become hearers but doers of the word.

They keep the word so deep in their heart and so when the storm of affliction or temptation comes they are not afraid and are able to stand still for they are grounded on the solid rock which is Christ.

If you are child of God who is filled so much with the word you have nothing to be afraid of. You hardly panic when the enemy attacks those who are not firmly grounded in the word. You are able to stand at all times and overcome the dangerous elements of life that render others destitute and deprived them of their joy and hope.

Those Who Build On The Ground Or In The Sand.

The other group of people the Lord talked about are those who lay their foundation in the sand or on the ground. These are people who find it so hard to obey God's word.

They are just hearers and not doers of the word. God's word is not deeply rooted in their heart though they listen to it or read about it.

But the person who hears what I say but doesn’t act on it is like someone who built a house on the ground without any foundation. When the floodwaters pushed against it, that house quickly collapsed, and the resulting destruction of that house was extensive.”Luke 6:49

The destruction of such people are always great or extensive because they do not study and endeavour to keep the commandments of Christ, therefore they have no hope of salvation in the day of trouble; when a storm of affliction or temptation comes then they will fail and fall.

So which group do you find yourself in? Are you a hearer of the word or a doer of the word?

The solid foundation to build upon is on christ Jesus ...let build by hearing and be the doers of the word....Thanks @collinz

The blievers stronghold is always in Christ and this is done by building a solid foundation in His word

That's very true @odsam2, thanks for your comment

Our foundations do matter greatly when it has to do with our walk with God. Our foundations too can be rocky if we obey God's words presented to us. Great post @collinz

Jesus Christ is the solid rock that every Christian must root its foundations on. This is my declaration :I will be the doer of the word and not just a listener

You have taken a nice stance, God bless you @johnsonkoranteng

Indeed the strenght of any building relies alot on its foundation, we are temples of the lord and as such our foundation will go along way to affect our lives when the with blows

Thanks for sharing a great thought @nattybongo

To build on a solid foundation you need a firm relationship with God

That's so true, thanks @elyon

Well said brother, solid is build on basis of Christ in our lives. Thanks for sharing @collinz.

This I is one of the best analogies in the bible. If God Is not your foundation, then you are doomed.
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life? Jesus is the Solid rock that we have to cling to.

Jesus is indeed a solid rock @gadol
