Praying The Right Way #3
And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Luke 4:1-4

Prayer is so important and it is something that every believer of God must do everyday irrespective of the situation at hand. We should pray whether we are happy or sad, we should pray whether all is working in our favour or not, whether broke or financially sound.
Prayer is necessary for a daily survival for every believer. Jesus started his journey and ministry with prayer amd ended with prayer. He was the one who showed believers how to pray the right way.
Today we continue the journey as we learn the prayer pattern Jesus taught his disciples and discover how we can also pray the right way.
The first thing Jesus showed the disciples in prayer was a father and son relationship. Prayer is a communication between us and our father. How we perceive God is so important in prayer and it's what determines whether we will receive answers or not. It becomes easier to ask for anything from God if we know that God is our father and have a good relationship with Him.
The next thing which Jesus taught the disciples was to acknowledge the holy name of God and ascribe honour to Him. God has a great name and His name tells us who He is. God's name is highly exalted above every other name.
In prayer we are to acknowledge His name and give Him honour first before any other thing. He has promised in His word for His name sake and that is why honoring His name before asking for anything is so important when we pray.
Today we continue with the next thing Jesus showed us to do when we pray.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Thy Kingdom come means calling for the sweet influences of heaven to happen in earth. We need the heavenly influences in our lives. Thy will be done as in heaven, so in earth is also about calling for God's will to prevail in our lives.
He showed them that in prayer we need the influences of heaven in our lives as well as the will or God to come to pass in our lives.
Praying the right way is praying according to God's will.
Prayer is not about our will but God's will. Many people pray amiss because they pray not according to what God wills for their life.
Our prayers should be : "Lord do what you please with me" not "Lord do what I please", for it is only the will of God that is important and needed to prevail in our life.
Jesus when he was praying desired that he bypass what God wills for his life but he realises it is not the will of the flesh, the mind or the soul that has to be considered but the will of God. He then prayed:
.....nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Mathew 26:39

This should be our attitude in prayer, that the Lord should enable us to do what is pleasing to Him; give us that grace that is necessary to the right knowledge of His will, and an acceptable obedience to it.
