Addicted to God

I used to be addicted to drugs. But now I am addicted to God. I have found that the best possible life to live is the life lived in relationship with God. Life to the full is found in following Jesus! 😀 Jesus said "the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." (John 10:10) "Sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death." (James 1: 15) But Jesus gives life! Jesus is the only way that leads to life. (Matthew 7:13-14)

God wants to give you good gifts!

God does not want us to suffer. He wants to bless us and allow us to enjoy the most pleasure possible. Did you know that "Eden" means pleasure? 😊 God's original design is always the best. God has your best interest in mind! He wants to give you good gifts (James 1:17; Mathew 7:11)! God is not a buzz kill. He's got the best buzz in store for you! 😃

There is a better way!

Sin hurts us. It brings death. Its not good for us. And He grieves at our suffering. He hates to see His children in pain. Sin steals, kills and destroys from us. God doesn’t want us to sin simply because it is not to our own advantage. The end result of sin is death (Proverbs 16:25).

Examples of good gifts

Alcohol and sex are examples of gifts that God created for us to enjoy. When we follow God's design for enjoying these gifts, we can enjoy them to their maximum potential. When we go outside of these natural boundaries then the gifts actually become less enjoyable. The further we drift away from His design, the less pleasure the gifts give. The gifts are most effective when we enjoy them in the right way. They don't seem to work when we try to enjoy them without God.

Alcohol is a good gift! Just don’t get drunk. A drink every now and then is a wonderful gift! Drinking in moderation is wonderful! Drinking a bottle of whisky everyday will not bring about life and pleasure but rather suffering and death.

Sex is another good gift! The most enjoyable sex is sex between one man and one woman, inside the marriage covenant. An orgy is (I've been told) not nearly as enjoyable as sex in the marriage covenant—between one man and one woman.

He is withholding nothing!

God has good gifts that can only be enjoyed to their maximum potential when they are enjoyed within the boundaries God sets for us. God is not withholding anything from us! Rather, He just wants our good! :) Psalm 84:11 says "no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly." Wow! What a glorious promise! Following Jesus leadership is the guarantee of how we get what we are ultimately looking for! Psalm 34:10 says a similar thing: "the young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing." God's sets boundary lines for us because He wants our good! "The [boundary] lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a good inheritance" (Psalm 16:6-8).

Life or death

In Deuteronomy 30:19 God says "I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses." He urges us to choose life. We choose life by having a glass of wine occasionally and enjoying sex with one partner in marriage. We choose death by drinking heavily every day and having sex with multiple partners. We actually bring death upon ourselves and will experience suffering when we go outside of the good boundary lines God has set for our own good!

Its like fire. Fire can bring life or death. A fire burned in the fireplace can be extremely good—giving life. But outside of its proper context—on the living room floor—burns down the whole house and brings death.

The Source of Life

I don't even waste my time with dead-end streets that are empty and unsatisfying. I am not even tempted by sin anymore because I know it is just an inferior pleasure compared to the bliss that only God can provide. God's love is better than any drug. Better than any thing the world has to offer (Song of Songs 1:2). God tells us this very thing in Jeremiah 2:13 "for My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water." Sin is a broken cistern. And God is the fountain of living waters. The source of life. The source of pleasure.

Return

Just keep returning to The Source! Not the broken cisterns! "As a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool repeats his folly." (Proverbs 26:11) Don't return to garbage! Return to Pleasure Himself (God)!

No desire to sin

One encounter with the love of God truly ruins one for lesser pleasures. Sin does not seem appealing compared to God's love. In John 6:68-69 Peter told Jesus, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." I have no desire to go anywhere else! I have no desire to sin! Where else can I go? There is no life anywhere else! He is my life (Deuteronomy 30:20). I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing!” Psalm 16:2)

What are the "bees knees?"

Haha! 😅 LOL! 😝 In case you were wondering what all this has to do with "bees knees..." The term "bees knees" means the "top shelf" or the "best of the best"...I think some say it originates from the bee's knee's being the area that is covered in the most pollen or something.

...Anyways—I like saying "groovy" and "far out" and "gnarly" and other words from the 70's. "Bees knees" is one of these! :D And so basically all I'm trying to say is that God's love is the best! He is the most enjoyable! He is the best of the best! And the very best life is found in following Him!
