BENEFITING FROM GOD'S WORD

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Hebrews 4:2

In the human body, it takes two important factors for fertilization and hence pregnancy to occur. These factors are: a viable sperm and a viable egg. No matter how potent the sperm from the man maybe, if there is no egg from the woman, a baby cannot be formed.
This analogy can be used to describe how we bear fruit from God's word. God's word is comparable to the sperm and our faith, to the egg. Unless both are present, we cannot be fruitful in our Christian lives. However, one thing about God's word is it is always potent and hence fruitfulness is dependent on our faith.
In the above verse, the word preached was preached to two groups of people. However, it did not profit the latter (the Israelites in Moses's time) because they did not believe the word. Therefore, it is expedient for us to always believe whatever God tells us through his word so that we may benefit from it.

LIFE APPLICATION
Always determine in your heart to believe God irrespective of what your senses or logic tell you.

PRAYER
Lord, help me believe your word at all times.
