THE MISSION.
"After these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, whom he sent two by two in front of him to every city and place where he was to go. And he said to them: The truth is very much, but the workers few, therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send workers to his harvest. "
The Lord sent 70 disciples who were to prepare the way for Jesus' ministry. Only Luke tells us this mission, which should take place for a limited time, since Jesus was heading towards Jerusalem.
Today the phrase "pray to the Lord of the harvest to send workers to your harvest" is heard quite frequently as if the Lord were contemplating the world prepared for the harvest, and our mission was to take care of picking it up. I consider that my current occupation is to sow. If you have ever seen a farmer work, you know there is a big difference between sowing the seed and reaping the crop, once the seed has matured. Someone could say: "Yes, but the Lord said that the harvest was many and the workers few." We have to remember where Jesus was when he made that statement. At that time he was on this side of the cross and an era was coming to an end. At the end of each time there is a judgment, which includes a harvest, and the time itself, is the appropriate time for sowing the seed. I believe that at present, we are sowing the seed and that at the end of this time a harvest will take place. In the parable of the wheat and the tares, in Matthew 13:30, the Lord said: It is better to let them grow together, until the harvest; Then I will send the reapers to pick up the weeds first and tie it in bunches, to burn it, and then store the wheat in my barn. My responsibility and occupation is to sow the seed, which is the Word of God. And this is also the task of every Christian.
