I've heard this statement more times than I've blinked my eyes. Its everywhere - from the lips of an aggrieved babe who's having issues with her boyfriend to even the girl reacting to a hearsay experience about a man doing some crazy nasty stuff.
Take a stroll down the streets of Twitter and you'd lose your voice when you see the rage. Thousand of tweets with the bold tag #MenAreScum, throwing stones at the entire male gender, castigating them to be the worst creatures on God's Green Earth.. At some point, all I could see on my Instagram and Facebook feeds were floods of posts about breakups and issues in relationships. Guess the themes and hashtags? Men Are Scum

It got so bad, I had to ask: What exactly is the meaning of the word "scum"?

Urban Online Dictionary defines Scum as

someone so disgraceful that they are seen as the lowest form of life. "Worthlessness", "waste of skin", "dirt". "Nothing".

Scum is the epitome of a worthless, good-for-nothing human.

Cambridge Dictionary goes on to say scum means

a very bad or immoral person or group of people

So, basically, the idea behind the " men are scum" idiom is that the members of the male gender are the primary perpetrators of the evils in our society towards women, especially in the context of a relationship. I understand that men are far from being saints. Fair enough, it is no secret that men, especially in this part of the world, have mastered the art of making irresponsible decisions. Sadly, there are cases of men physically assaulting women, especially their wives. There are even cases of rape and sexual harassment of women and even female children by randy men. And most commonly, there's the issue of the infidelity of men in marriages and relationships. And I must admit, this is the major reason behind the numerous wails of men being the scum of the earth.

But hey, let's back up a little bit. Let's slow down and retrace our steps a little. To start with, the word "scum" is way too strong an insult for all of the men folk to be categorized as, don't you think so? I mean, that would mean the guy who did you wrong, me who's innocent, your father, brothers, your husband and kids are worthless pieces of crap? Damn! Calm down!!

A closer look at the picture would reveal to you that there's another angle of reflection. As it is always said, a coin has two sides. This begs the question, is this streak of irresponsibility and wrong acts an epidemic that has infected only men?

I am not a fan of domestic violence. I detest the thought of it. But you must also know that men are also victims of harassments and violence, don't you?

Men are physically abused by aggressive wives and partners. Im talking about women beating their husbands or boyfriends and inflicting them with injuries. Tell me you saw the news sometime this year when an enraged girlfriend cut off the penis of her boyfriend because she was enraged about him cheating on him. You must've seen it, It was all over the news.. Men are harassed emotionally by abusive mates.

And painfully, these men in these abusive relationships do not speak a word in order to salvage a broken ego and pride. Seems like y'all complaining of male ego have it at your advantage.

Sexual harassment is not limited to just women alone. Boys and even men are sexually abused. And trust me, you cannot believe the emotional trauma and psychological scars it inflicts on the individual. I mean, you're a mature lady, you're attractive enough. Still, you prefer the cute tall boy who lives next door and you schemed and succeeded in getting him. He declined, but you were not one to be rejected, so you had your way. Then, you told him not to tell anyone else you'd kill him. He was just 13.

Can't you see that you created this beast?

And oh, did it ever occur to y'all that women cheat too? Don't tell me you didn't know women cheated too? Don't get me started on my friend's girlfriend who was straffing his uncle regular and the poor boy thought he had found the one. Men are scum" "y'all are beasts" blah blah blah, I hear many ladies scream. But isn't it hilarious to know that these same ladies castigating men still look forward to walking down the aisle with a man, thus settling down and committing the rest of their lives to one of the "scum". Wow!! If that isnt ironic, then I dunno what is. Now that kind of thought beats me because honestly, I think its rib-cracking. I swear, I'll never understand women.
Well, what do I know? Please go ahead and get married to a "scum" and have kids. The Good Lord be so kind and bless you with boys who automatically qualify into the ranks of "scum" by virtue of their birth and would also grow up to be called "scum".
In the end, these men are scum noise are hypocrytical statements from sour and misguided women. No offence intended, but women, please quit being the Pharisees and Sadducees of the 21st Century..

Yes, I am a man. I was born with a penis and like you can guess, it functions like a new machine. Believe me, we are all victims, all in the same hell dealing with different demons at different stages. Please try to understand..
