Phil Knirck woke up the hamster in my head today

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

If you don't follow Phil Knirck on Steemit or on youtube, I suggest you go do so, right now.
on Steemit -- https://steemit.com/@knircky

It's worth it. Assuming you care about crpytocurrency, and I doubt you'd be reading this if you didn't, you'll find a lot of detail and other goodies in his videos.

As proof, I'm here to talk about some of those goodies that popped into my lil' head today and subsequently woke up the dozy hamster who lives in there.

The first of Phil's youtube videos that I came across was titled: How Bitcoin will reach $2000 to $10000 in 2017 and $100k by 2026.

That was three months ago. So far, he's batting 1.000.
I don't want to speak too much on that video here but you can find it here

What I want to talk about instead is something from his video from two days ago (May 22, 2017)
Bitcoin reached $2300! How HIGH can it go?!

This more recent video comments on some points from that video made earlier this year (above). The review touches on how people get a bit touchy and defensive when you suggest cryptocash are in a bubble. "Ohhhhh....no, don't say that! It's a real, genuine rise, not a bubble!"

As he explains, the use of the word "bubble" in this case is simply a matter of semantics. He obviously cares deeply about bitcoin and wants it to succeed but that doesn't mean we can't refer to this current state of affairs as a bubble.

Whether we fear or dislike the term "bubble", once you remove emotion from your thoughts on the topic you will find logic settles the nerves a bit. Regardless, we can all agree that something economically significant is going down and we should definitely discuss it openly.

Plus why not, it's fun. And its the future.

What really perked my ears up during this video (think: aforementioned hamster on wheel) was the bit about optimists being the driving force behind the crypto Universe, where it's headed, and how we got to this bubble we're in now.

As someone who did a degree in social psychology, it baffled me that after all this time reading about bitcoin, and blockchain, and steem, and altcoin and ALL this other stuff going on, how did I never stop to think about the dichotomy within this universe of optimist vs pessimist. It's wonderfully simplistic yet profoundly ingenious.

New technology + pessimist = avoidance/rejection/negativity
New technology + optimist = acceptance/excitement/positivity

I'd love to see a study done to show the actual numbers of how many people on steemit tested "positive" for optimism. Would be fascinating to see if this hypothesis is true. (If there is data out there please send it to me).

If it is true, the implications are virtually unlimited. It made me think about Steemit and how this community is designed to thrive because not only are the people who are invested in it heading in the same direction, they are likely coming from a collection of people swimming in the optimistic end of the pool.

Obviously this is a very binary way of viewing humans. People aren't 100% pessimistic or optimistic.
Not everyone inside the cryptosphere is an optimist and not everyone who thinks it won't succeed into the future are pessimists. But as an overall community, to have more positive people (not necessarily like-minded) than negative is a recipe for success.

If you are reading this as an optimist, whether you are genetically predisposed to it or paid a bunch of money to learn spiritual well-being from a Buddhist monk in a hut in the Himalayas, the bottom line is, being optimistic you've felt the strength of positive thinking and know the sensation of connecting it to your present and future-self.

Now consider the collective. Without getting too deep into metaphysics or the collective-unconscious, just take a moment to appreciate what a platform such as this one is capable of. Granted, disputes and disagreements will still occur. In fact they are healthy and a useful component of growth. But having a collectively optimistic view with the same goal makes for a powerful force.

The cherry on top of the cake? Very, very, very few trolls. There's no sustenance for them in this ecosystem :)

In my opinion, as individuals it is our prerogative to make the steemit world a progressive place where we work with an ultimate goal in mind - but being "present" enough to occasionally remove the rose-coloured glasses when things might be a bit too good to be true or when things are being "pumped". I believe that as we grow as a community we will become more collectively mature and wise.

At least that's what the optimist in me believes.
