Dust to Dust, SBD to Steem

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

I have a super early morning and a very long day ahead tomorrow so I am just about to hit the sack but, I thought I would quickly remind of two situations that are in play now.

How much Steem is a Gin and Tonic? About 25 in Finland

SBD print rate

Firstly, you might have noticed that post payouts are coming in three sections now if set to 50/50; SP, liquid SBD and liquid Steem. This is because Steem price has dropped so much that the SBD printing is slowing to keep debt below 10%. Hardfork 20 moved the straight line decrease from between 2-5% up to 9-10% and with the SBD print rate currently at 44% based on the 3.5 day average, it means that the debt is about 9.66%. Expect that it will stop printing tomorrow.

With the price of SBD low also and a supply of only 13 million, it is possibly a target for a pump once it stops printing but, don't quote me on that one, just something to think about.

Dust votes

From my understanding, the dust threshold is still in play which means payouts under 0.02 SBD will be lost, this includes on comments also. There are services like @dustsweeper that can save them for a small fee some might consider using. With prices so low, people should consider their voting weight when voting on comments so as to hopefully be able to reach past the 2 cent barrier. The payouts that don't make it past dust have the value returned to the pool for distribution.

It isn't all bad news

What I did notice however from steemd.com is that the reward fund seems to be about 10% larger than normal. Usually it is sitting around the 750K Steem mark. I am not sure why but there it is, up for grabs by those who are still actively posting on the platform.

For those looking long term on Steem and who are unable (or unwilling) to buy what is available on exchanges and want to earn it on the platform, low price is an opportunity to earn more Steem as those who are here to sell what they get immediately, generally post less as it isn't worth their time. Price is a spam filter in some ways.

What I do recommend though is that you support the authors you enjoy a little more heavily at these kinds of times and that includes, adding some comments around the place and resteeming a little. As you might recall from a recent post I wrote, vests draw from the pool, not price which means increasing the voting percentage will increase the draw on the pool and actually distribute more Steem to a user. Use this to help those you think are doing a good job for Steem and work regardless of the price as they will be the ones still helping when price is high too.

It is hard on everyone for various reasons but a community that stands together and engages with each other are much more resilient than lone wolves. Those that are a little anxious or upset by the price might find that engaging well and having some fun in the comments sections or in the chats will do wonders for the nerves and mood. Also, price does some strange things to people for various reasons, so be a little understanding and remain calm.

Anyway, it is time for bed in preparation for a 530 wake up alarm.
Goodnight.

I missed this post when it was possible to upvote it and resteem, which I would have done to spread encouraging news written in brief and understandable prose.
But in regards to your subject, I am happy to hear the rewards pool is bigger and that low Steem price cuts down competition. I am very active in an attempt to accumulate Steem by earning it and I purchase it regularly also. I am bullish on Steem and Steemit for the longterm. 07A50CE7-73C9-46BC-B95B-4A61FE521279.jpegI guess time will tell if I am foolhardy or wise 😆
In any event I enjoy your brief posts for their point of view. I am new and like to see multiple points of view on things I am invested in, so I will keep reading. 👍

I guess time will tell if I am foolhardy or wise

so far, I have proven myself to be both but which it is depends on perspective :D

At least people like you are still very active. You are one of those that bring a huge amount of value to the platform IMHO.

Doing my best to stay active and hopefully drum up a few more to keep posting. Those that go quiet might look back and wish they hadn't.

I'm trying to do at least 1c votes atm (I somehow managed to forget that 2c was the dust threshold aargh) and it's fun as Partiko and Steempeak give me very different numbers as I'm playing with the slider XD

I should probably up my posting schedule I guess but that would require actually having more stuff to post (or more time to make more).

I hope you had at least four hours before the 5:30 wake up alarm :D

I had read that it's .025 is the threshold, to be more specific. And YES, that is why I like Partiko's slider the best!!

I love it too, packs a lot of useful info into a small modal :)

I was going to do a couple of screenshots to show you the different values I get with steempeak and partiko BUT apparently we're all currently multibazillionaires and all the numbers are way too big for my meagre brain to cope with so have a phoenix wren because your handle evoked some cute imagey XD

Sorry Taraz XD

I love it so much, thank you! 😃 I'm honored that you drew a Phoenix Wren. 😊

Oh, that’s an interesting post! Thank you for the information.
You mentioned that dust votes will be lost. Does it mean my post has to reach 0.02 SBD or 0.021 to be payed out? I know it’s a very small amount, but sometimes it’s even hard to get there.

I think it has to be 0.02 but not completely sure.

I could do with a gin and tonic right now to wake me up. Hope it goes to plan tomorrow. Have increased my post load as well like last time. It does help as even 50 c is something these days.

yep. At the high, a 20 dollar payout got 2 Steem-ish. Now, a 2 dollar payout gets 4.

It is days like this I am eternally grateful for @dustbunny and @dustsweeper!

I ended up changing some of my BTC to Steem power last night. Didn't remember that I had that account and found out that there was some bitcoin in it so... :)

I so am not an investor that trades, buys and sells wisely. I really, clearly am not. I'm an investor that FORGETS having money (well, it wasn't that much anyway), invests it, and probably forgets again! Everything!

So it steems that here I am. To stay... to steem. :)

Aha, lol. I wonder how much there is in forgotten coins out there?

Better not wondering about that. Now I'm pretty sure I haven't got any more forgotten accounts and crypto. Oh but wait... Some of my Peercoin got stuck to my Coinomi wallet a while ago as they stopped trading it to other crypto in the wallet. I wonder... :D

An insightful post that taught me a thing or two about steem's inner workings. Thanks for sharing!

Should we be using 50/50 or 100% now. At 5his time I just can’t grasp it. I am at 50/50 ,sbd below $1
Or am I backwards. Need SP to grow

Because SBD has stopped printing, it doesn't really matter as it pays it out in the equivalent steem anyway.

A good thing to remember at times like this, is that a loss on paper only becomes a real loss when you actual sell. Until then, it's just a number.
