Social Media That Pays: A Comprehensive Guide.

in #steem8 years ago

Hi Guys,

Even before Steemit i was interested in the concept of social media that pays. There are already a number of platforms out there that attempt to share revenue with their contributors, although none quite as smart as Steemit :)

Here is a comprehensive guide to some of these platforms, some still in development while others are up and running.

Akasha

http://akasha.world/

AKASHA ( [aːkaːʃə], आकाश) is the Sanskrit word meaning “ether” in both its elemental and metaphysical senses.

The ancient Sanskrit-speaking civilization envisioned akasha as a metaphysical information network connecting humanity with itself and infinite knowledge. In this paradigm, thoughts, ideas, feelings, and experiences are stored forever and shared through the ether, which acts as an universal field connecting multiple planes of existence.

Thousands of years later the Internet was created, inventing in the process a new way to transmit and store thoughts, feelings, ideas, and experiences – this time as bits accessible to large numbers of people that are part of the same invisible network connecting billions of minds.

As a decentralized application AKASHA deploys a next-generation information architecture born from the fusion of ancient wisdom with new technologies such as Ethereum and the Inter-Planetary File System. With AKASHA your thoughts and ideas will echo throughout humanity’s existence, thanks to a planetary-scale information network immune to censorship by design.

Synereo

The Bitcoin blockchain sparked a revolution. Though not scalable itself, it signaled the viability of using decentralized consensus algorithms to replace central entities, all together. For the first time ever, individuals no longer needed to cede control to centralized third-parties, like banks or corporations. Instead, these newly-applied algorithms could actually enable peer-to-peer networks to run independently - without oversight from any central authority, at all.

Years of academic research and industry involvement, however, showed us that the Bitcoin blockchain was not enough. In order to create fully distributed protocols and applications that would be truly scalable, a new approach was needed.

That’s why we developed Synereo and rooted it in process calculus, a mathematical approach developed specifically to reason about distributed and parallel computing. With this methodology at its core, the Synereo team was able to create the most comprehensive, reliable peer-to-peer development platform on the market.

Bitlanders

http://www.bitlanders.com/

BitLanders works by calculating your social engagement into a ‘BuzzScore.’ The BuzzScore is a competitive ranking from 0 to 100 that reflects your ability to involve users on your posts, blogs, videos, pictures, content, you name it. This takes into account how many people subscribe to your content, ‘buzz’ (which is like a facebook ‘like’) your content as well as comment.

After your BuzzScore is calculated at the end of every day, you are given a certain amount of Bitcoin as reflected by your BuzzScore and the current Bitcoin price. This money comes from a shared advertisement model. (At the moment, BitLanders does not have any ads; they are anticipating returning to advertisements with a native advertisement model as well.)

WE ARE CALLING FOR AN ONLINE REVOLUTION.
Today, you are owned by the technology companies that house your content and sell ads on your stuff.

We believe your creativity is beautiful and you should own it.

We believe you should have the choice to accept ads from brands you like, make 80% of the money from them and then have the option to pay it forward to causes you support.

Our mission is to inspire and empower you every day.

So, together we can change the world.

Tsu

http://www.tsu.co/

Tsū is an online social networking service and payment platform founded in October 2013. Tsū was created by Evacuation Complete, LLC, a Texas corporation, which was founded on February 7, 2008. Founders of Evacuation Complete are Sebastian Sobczak, Drew Ginsburg, and Thibault Boullenger, and the site is headquartered in New York City. Tsū is open to new users via invite.

Like Facebook, after registering to use the site, users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, exchange messages, post status updates and photos, and receive notifications when others update their profiles. Tsu differentiates itself from competitors by allowing its users to maintain ownership of the content they post.

Lets see where it all goes!

the more the better, the whole world is changing and the bigger all these get the better for everyone.

I had no idea there were so many others. Thanks for that. I'll check them out, out of curiosity.

You're welcome!

I have been saying that sites like these will herald a revolution that will simply obliterate the current "rigged" system of the world that is so obviously broken. It is the "winter is coming" equivalent of game of thrones for the elite world leaders that are the designers of the world's current, broken system. For THEM, Winter is Coming.

Interesting perspective... I like to believe that world leaders have successfully undermined their own power when they gave us the internet :)

Yeah! exactly. I think they hadn't thought of this in their wildest of dreams. Now it has become a nightmare for them! And I am loving it! hehehe

Thank you, this is valuable information. Competition is always healthy and facilitates the identification of best practices.

You're welcome, glad to be of assistance.

I've been following Akasha for a bit now. They only trouble is they are moving too slow. Will look into the others, thanks! There's also Ethereal.cloud which is apparently launching tomorrow.

But it's Steemit that has stolen the initiative and marched forward with the first mover advantage. Anyone else is playing catch up even though they have been around for longer.

You're right, Steemit is definitely at the forefront. I wasn't aware of Ethereal, Thanks for sharing that information.

I'm sure there are other startups popping looking at the growth of Steem. I remember there were a whole bunch of social networks when Myspace was going big. There seemed to be one every other week! Facebook came in and dealt the hammer blow.

I am a member of tsu and bitlanders and forgot about them so thank you for reminding me. I shall look at the other ones while I am at it.

Thank you for a good article. It's great that Steem community is not afraid of competing services, but welcomes it instead. I guess noone really wants a next facebook anymore. I say the bigger diversity out there, the better

You're welcome, and yes, the more diversity the better indeed!
