Goodbye dayjob. All into steem!

in #steem8 years ago

After the launch of steem it was immideately clear to me that I won't have any motivation left for the dull day job. Unfortunately I've been trapped in a contract I could only cancel by the end of a quarter.

Today is the big day. 3 months left in the year, and finally free!

Unfortunately I've also just lost my top 19 witness position, but for now I won't bother about this. Hopefully my work in the following months will convince one or two whales to push me back up.

As a first step I will work on completing the nodeless JS lib, for which I set up a bounty which wasn't completed. With that library I'll finally be able to launch the steemdice GUI.

PEvO is still making small progresses. The team has grown, but we still need more scientists from different fields familiar with the publishing process to design a perfect product which will be able to compete with the journal industry. Send anyone you know our way, best to join the chat. If you visit SteemFest, be sure to attend our talk about the project!

My voting power is by now mostly used by project curie and similar initiatives. I'm amazed how the community manages to spread the rewards over more posts and happy to be able to help!

Today I wanted to visit a blockchain meetup focusing on steem in Münster (Germany), but sadly missed my train. We'll do a hangout instead which will probably be published on steemit, but it will be in german.

After SteemFest me and Juka will travel through and around Europe, to promote steem and visit meetups, conventions and fellow steemians.

Let's move this forward, full steem ahead!

What a pity not to celebrate this day with you in the Münster Meetup today! Some good Münster brew Beer was waiting for you. But you only missed the train to us, but caught the train to a new life - and we will congratulate you over the hangout which will be public - in German language - but for Englisch speaking steelers - don´t mind dropping in and asking questions in English - here is the LINK directly

As if I wouldn't be sorry enough already. Hope that steem will continue to be a topic at your meetups, so I can get a taste of your beer next time! :)

Heyy sounds great on your Steemit plans, and I know whats it like to be stuck in a job you hate, so you will feel the freedom soon!! :)) What cities are you guys planning to visit after the Steemfest?

Didn't plan it to the city level yet. Actually, I didn't plan anything much. Just going to see where the path takes me. So far Spain, Romania and Greece are on my list. I don't want to settle down any time soon, there's so many places to see!

I recommend Crete, Greece!

hahah thats a good plan!! Spain is amazing! I have never been to Romania actually! and Greece is stunning! Well let us know where you go!

looking forward to seeing you in Romania!

what was your job that you hated? WAIT don;t answer that! save it for the hot seat :))

Congrats! Talented people working full time on Steem is a beautiful thing to see.

Regarding the top 19, there are only a limited number of spots and while I can't say I think every single top 19 member is the best choice in my opinion for the community, the list has gotten better. What I would suggest is not to look at it as an all-or-nothing proposition and approach some of the other top 19 witnesses about the idea of allocating some of their witness funds to your project. I'm currently sponsoring three other projects in addition to my own work. To me that seems a better way to approach the funding provided by the 19 slots than projects getting funded and unfunded just because a particular witness is in or out.

Thanks!

I agree with the list, it's really gotten better. Glad to see newcomer talents being appreciated.
And of course you're also right with projects being funded by more than one source, especially when they're as big as PEvO. The total cost for it can easily accumulate into the millions over time.
We try to handle everything as open as possible, and everyone is invited to contribute. That includes monetary contributions of course.
I'm able to carry the running expenses by myself for a while now, we just can't expand much more with the current budget. If the situation doesn't resolve I may start to try actively raising funds next year, and at some point that won't be avoidable at all probably. For now I hope to get back up soon.

There isn't millions to allocate from witness funding at all. Currently power-downs for a long-running witness run about $2000/week and if you value SP at 100% of par (questionable), accrued SP is still only about $4000/week. I'm running negative just to maintain funding to projects that I want to support, delaying cuts until it is clear the market won't recover. So if you do need that kind of funding then other sources will probably needed anyway, unless there are some big STEEM price increases soon.

at some point that won't be avoidable at all probably

In the long run it will have to find support from the scientific community. We're not there yet though :) And to a big part it's up to us how fast we want to/can get there.

Congratulations on leaving that day job behind and being able to be fully dedicated to steemit.

Thanks for all that you have done to make steemit what it is; we appreciate your support.

THANK YOU @pharesim!

Also, thanks for showing support for the OPERATION TRANSLATION effort.

Is there a real game plan for bridging the language barrier on steemit or is there anything more we could do on our end? I not sure what the whales or others really think, but I'm doing my best to build this community for the long-term.

Thanks.

Congrats, and thanks for making the move to put more time into this! Personally I never looked back on mine, happy to have made that leap :D

I was so jealous when I saw your post about it :) I knew it won't be too long, but it seemed like an eternity

Yes.. the last day feels damn good, right?!!

i think it's my turn to get jealous LOL

So . . . . I'm thinking that I've inadvertently finished your bounty for you . . . .

Check out https://steemit.com/steemit/@digital-wisdom/introducing-steem-browsifier-full-access-to-the-steem-api-from-the-browser

What else do you need? I'd be happy to add anything (that makes sense to me as being productive ;-) Or, if you wish to join the project, I'd be happy to add you . . . .

Finally someone cared to browserify that. But the bounty is about a native implementation without node. 600kB is absolute overload.

I'm leaving my job to work full time on Steem are the best kind of posts. They make me dream a lot. I wish I'll be able to do the same someday. It seems like one of the most fulfilling "job" to exist. Enjoy!

Congratulations!

Congratulations! I wish I could get away from Fort Galt to come and see you in November but I'm pretty sure I'll be tied up with construction so we'll just have to do it another time.
