Steemit Inc has announced that there will be three categories for awards again - Best Author, Best Contributor to the Community and Best Community.

Realising the need for an improved front-end for Steemit @the-gorilla has started investigating the coding of steemit.com.
After discovering the difficulties and complexities of changing the coding of steemit.com, discussion in the comments of @the-gorilla's post turned to the idea of creating a new and separate front-end following the path of SteemPeak that was popular before the big split.
Witness @xpilar also mentioned in the comments that he and his team have been looking at this idea too...
Building an alternative front-end to steemit.com would give people choice and would allow new features to be introduced.

5%, 10%, 15%... Anything to introduce any significant changes in the platform (although it would be better if most funding would be collected by Steemit Inc.). Steemit need it desperately or it may simply disappear.

Since the SPS is already taking part of the reward pool, it simply makes more sense if we could just reactivate it. Right now, the handful of us who are building tools/DApps are doing it cause it's cool to work on apart from our 9 to 5 job(At least that's the case with me).
The other avenues of funds for development can also be promoted posts on Steem. This is basically the author paying a certain fee to the developer of the site to have his post featured/promoted in a highly visible region of the website.
