Thinking about VALUE, and the Steem blockchain: How can I imagine all this back at one year ago?

When we talk about cryptocurrency, the topic can always be extended deep into the realm of philosophy. What I am thinking is those arguments, rationales, belief systems, etc. that surround the concept of VALUE.

Money is not everything. But no one can deny that money is probably the most efficient way to extract and to utilize the value contained in whatever aspect of human life. The monetization systems in the human society kept on changing, and new forms were invented to replace the existing forms, and human civilization moved forward.

But actually there is still a lot of things contain some value which we can't monetize or even utilize it. Some kind of value can't be monetized because of its nature. Like love. But some other types of value cannot be monetized just because of the shortcoming of the existing system in our society.

Thinking from the perspective of value, then we can grasp more easily what the Steem blockchain and some of the other cryptocurrency projects are offering for us.

Value of contents and social interactions are so subjective that we cannot measure or fix. In the situation like this, then crowd wisdom can provide some help. But in the era before the Internet, and in the era with the old money system, asking for crowd wisdom to determine the value of a piece of content or an action of social interaction would be extremely inefficient, if not impossible.

This is what I feel great about Steem and all its application (and the SMTs in the future). What we are doing every day on this platform - like upvoting, commenting - are the exact process of gathering crowd wisdom to find out the value of one particular post, and the value is monetized in the form of rewards. How can I imagine this back at, say, one year ago?

That's why I always feel fantastic about this great social experiment here.
