Please Help!! My account seems to be hacked with SBD transferred to @jiganomics

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

When I was looking at my wallet I was shocked to see this. I know its only 17 SBD, but it matters to me in two ways :

  1. I don't get a lot of high upvotes. So 17 SBD took quite some time to collect through a lot of posts of under 0.5-1SBD.
  2. Is my account hacked? Can I ever use this account again? What if this happens again

All of the money got transferred to @jiganomics

So I headed over to his account to see.

Seems that this has happened to a lot of other accounts too. These might have been taken for normal transfers but when I checked his comment section I came to know it was not.

What do I do next?

Who can help me?

Is there any point in even using this account anymore as it is already compromised and I really can't think of starting again at 25 and coming all the way up, it was not easy!

Please help!

Wtf is there any glitch on steemit ???

There is no glitch. This seems to have happened to few others too and the only thing I can think of is, this account doing it intentionally. Please re-steem for maximum visibility. We got to stop this.

Hey, I accidentally put my active key in the transfer memo instead of the memo key, as the description said that active key is used for transfers. As I was new to steemit I put my active key not realising it can also be used in place of my password to log into my steemit account! I believe this is a big issue from steemit side as the explanations of different keys are ambiguous and don’t make sense to non IT people. The password should be the only way to log into someone’s account. I had no idea there could be 2 different passwords as this is never done on any other site. Also he managed to steal my money the minute it hit my steemit wallet. Not sure how he managed to do it so fast. It is really sad to see this occur to people and such users need to be banned immediately!

Someone is scanning all posts and transfers for mistaken "key" entries, I guess just by looking for words that are 51 or 52 letters long. It's very sad that people need to resort to such things, rather than just making some posts themselves and doing some work.

The issue can be resolved by steemit bringing in 2-Factor-Authentication. This is standard for transfers at exchanges.

As wel as the fact that everyone can see everyone’s wallets. This is major security issue! It doesn’t make any sense to me.

@steemcleaners : Would you be able to help?

@berniesanders : You have fought against a lot of scammers. Is this something you could help me out with?

@berniesanders : Could you please help me and the others with this?

Hey @navaneeth, did you change all your passwords yet?

I changed the main key by regenerating my password through the "change password" option. It did not say anything about changing other passwords. Is there any options for those?

I think that the other passwords (keys) are regenerated also when you change the main key. It would be worth checking your new keys against the old ones just to make sure - as the hacker will have your old active key.

You should also edit the photo credit for "The Tunnel". The link is a bad one.
