Thoughts on Steem if Steem really wants to engage people organically
I love the concept of Steem but I want to add some criticisms and critiques as well. As a fairly new steemian, I have found that a lot of the attention goes to posts on Steem itself. While there is nothing wrong with this, I have to admit from a newbie standpoint, it is intimidating for people like me who are primarily here for using this as an alternative social media platform. I wont lie, I still dont really understand Steem. Luckily, I am not too hung up on the mechanics of it. However, I think I understand that the mission of Steem is to be widely adopted for more people like me.
If we are going to attract more people, I am not suggesting that we dont talk about Steem, however, I AM suggesting that we encourage more voting for people outside the average steem posts.
I want to see more funny content climb the ladder. I want more inspiring posts. I want more thoughts.
But most importantly, I want to scroll through steem because the posts engage my interests more.
Maybe I am too new to this and I have not figured out how to format it for my interests. But that is basically the problem. The learning curve to find what might be interesting to a person like me is too high when I already have so many other alternatives. I want Steem to thrive, but I know that in order for that to happen, the user experience needs to be simplified and personalized.
Bring on my batch of downvotes, I can take it. This is just my opinion.
To take the sting away I leave you with a picture of my son feeding geese!
Cheers,
Tyler

https://Steempeak.com offers a lot of options for filtering the posts you see by tag/topic and by user. You can even create lists. I also found Steemit very complex to begin with but really I just had to find the interface that suited my needs best. Some other good interfaces are https://busy.org and the eSteem App for desktop or mobile found here https://esteem.app/
If you want a crash course in some handy tools check out a recent article that I wrote here: https://steempeak.com/steem/@jacobpeacock/some-useful-steem-blockchain-tools
I am sharing this not as a promotional endeavor but to perhaps help you on your Steemit journery.
Cheers and Happy Steeming!
