WHO IS A TEACHER?

A teacher is a person that help others to acquire knowledge, skills, character etc. A teacher teaches others how to do things and know things.

A teacher starts from the family where your parents and siblings happens to be your first teacher. Your mother teaches you how to be responsible, respectful and mold your character for good. We actually learn from our parents or siblings even whiteout out then deliberately teaching us as we tend to learn from there character and attitude

ROLES OF A TEACHER

I will limit the roles of a teacher to give (5) for the purpose of this writing though, the importance of a teacher to a child or society can not be over emphasized. The roles of a teacher are as follows

1. Resource person

a teacher is always handy when there is need for information. Everyone trends to turn to a teacher when in need of solutions or how to do things. The teacher may not have the solution or information requested but should know who knows or how to know who knows. And even when the teacher have the information needed and eventually gives it out, he still need to give advice as to how not to misuse the information given

2. Support

In a school, i teacher supports the students. This support comes in many forms. The teacher tenders support as a leader, coach or even as a counsellor. Teachers can also support other teachers

3. Mentor

This is where teachers should not be found shortage. Students always look up to teachers to learn even from there character. Some times younger teachers who are just beginning their teaching profession look up to older teachers and try to follow their foot steps

Helping hand

Most times, teachers do more than they were hired to do. You will see a teacher heading the PTA meeting and involving in other extra curricular activities like organizing football match between the students for recreation and entertainment purposes. Very active teachers tend to be more of a helping hand than the inactive ones and most times, the goals of the school determines how helping hand a teacher can be

Learner

And finally the learning part. It has been proven beyond doubt that no one man is an island of knowledge. Teachers, even though they teach, still do not know it all. Teachers should continue to grow in knowledge as they are being challenged on a daily bases and so the need to keep learning.

Anybody who likes to be a teacher should keep learning

in conclusion

Teachers can be many things to a child or adult. Teachers can be any body. Teachers can even be anywhere. But wheather they are here or there, they always have a distinctive responsibilities and in most cases characters too.

They are always their for you when you need their support or if it's a mentor you are looking for.

But some times, teachers are being undervalued because they probably do what they do out of passion
