Who Remembers Bitcoin Faucets In 2010/2011? A Bit Of Crypto Currency Nostalgia.
The other day I was cleaning out my storage unit when I staggered across a couple of my journals from my early days in crypto. Yes, in the days before earth coin and feather coin. The days when buying bitcoin was such a song and dance to buy that it was no wonder it was so easy to find at a faucet.Do you guys remember those? Or the first awkward Bitcoin wallet download? I do. I also remember my first dumb sell of Bitcoin at over 200 USD. I thought I was terribly clever at the time as a lot of that sell came from faucet payouts. Yes I was one of those sad people who would happily submit my email and details for something at the time that was mostly useless by popular definition. I recorded every faucet by hand in a journal by my PC. Sad, as I said. I mention this in a post because sitting here at the the keyboard engaging with Steemit I know I'm playing on an operating system (Steem) that is truly revolutionary and oddly feels like playing with a faucet, but not.
For those of you who have been knocking around in the crypto sphere for a while, you know Steem is a pretty amazing crypto currency unit. One trade executed through block trades or any transfer for that matter of SBD or the Steem token shows its elegance and performance capability just in its speed. But do you guys remember the early days of purchasing your first Bitcoin and hearing it ding in? This is just a post written in nostalgia I guess, but I feel it's relevant to Steemit and above all Steem. For some reason it kind of feels like sometimes I'm back playing with a faucet but not. It's odd. But I do know I'm engaging with something incredibly special that is either truly revolutionary, or announcing something revolutionary (EOS).
To compare Bitcoin to Steem is not what I'm doing by the way. I got my first Bitcoins in the same way a kid fascinated by bugs get's his first pet spider in truth. Now yes, a part of me was fascinated by what COULD happen if I hid my taxable income in these amazing things, but at the time the whole idea felt...well, delusional. However it was amazing fun so I'd buy some, sell some, earn off of faucets. I only stopped doing that around 2013. How many Bitcoin millionaires would there be if we all held? I remember at 200 USD I had bad 80's songs in my head about hitting it big time.... I can actually sympathize with the guy who bought a pizza in Bitcoin. In short, I was a moron.
I mention this in relation to Steemit not because it feels like a Bitcoin faucet... You work hard, create content, contribute to a growing community, etc. But there are times where for some unexplained reason I get that feeling like I did before where I know what I'm toying with will grow. I have no expectations of getting rich off of Steem. I think if the fates wanted me rich then I'd be so and be damn miserable for it. If not working hard then someone is on my behalf and well..... the worlds a big ship to push forward and we all have to do our part. Further more I'd have no complaints and that would be boring as hell. I like work and would grow bored without it. But for those of you in the crypto space who have only heard of the days of where a coin was worth almost nothing and then exploded...well, watch this space. Steem won't be the next Bitcoin but what it or EOS will be.. Who knows. If you're reading this then your not just reading information written by a nostalgic fool, you're reading information that's part of an operating system and a token. Contribute to it, put your signature on its chain of information. At the very worse you experience mild disappointment later. But some day, at the very best... well. Let your imagination run a little bit wild. I learned the hard way that some times there is no harm in a little delusional thought. Thanks for reading guys and as always, Steem on.
Firstly, Excellent post. It was a great read with some flashbacks.
You talk of faucets like they were a thing of the past. Yet I could buy a house from faucets last year. Well, That is the short version. I ran onto faucets last year July sometime to get some "free" bitcoin. The free bitcoin I threw into an exchange and started trading up and that changed a lot for me personally.
To me faucets was my first step into the Crypto world. I have much respect for it. As for your comment: "I have no expectations of getting rich off of Steem." I believe this is exactly why you will make it.
I had no intention of making money trading. But I was wrong. Normally if you do not do something for money the money follows anyways.
Thank you for such a kind reply. Good to see you're still about. How are you finding the platform? Please feel free to shout me if at any point you need a hand with boosting your posts up by resteeming. Many blessings and Steem on.
I will surely reach out to you. I have not posted very much lately. I have been creating a lot of content on reddit lately and that has been keeping me busy. I personally prefer Steemit. But I have been checking out Steemit and checking some authors. I just had no good motivation to create content. I will start again soon. I usually try and create 1 post a day. But life. Anyways, it is still a long term plan for me. So Im in no rush.
Hello @mudcat, I was looking for a post from you but they all resteemed. Look at @vaansteam who has a post a day old on voting. 😃
Hey @Mudcat36, I surely need to try and post more. But Everyone tries to balance life. I just did a new post:

If you feel it worth while. Please resteem. PS. I would never expect you to resteem anything that you feel is not worth while. And I would not take offense either...
