Was The Steem CyberAttack A Good Thing?

in #steem8 years ago

Ironically I actually came across Steemit after reading about a recent CyberAttack on the network. The attackers stole some 260 user accounts and $85,000. As horrible as that might sound, and I can only imagine what those users went through, it might actually be a positive.

I think gone are the days where an exchange gets hacked and the price of the currency plummets because people are scared sh**less. Bitcoin recovered after the Mt. Gox incident, Ethereum is slowly recovering even before the crisis has been resolved, and Steem might just follow the same pattern.

Investors are slowly coming to understand that as long as the coin itself is working as expected the services around it can get hacked, shutdown, or simply disappear and another service will be built to take its place.

Every Altcoin website has been writing about the Steemit incident, anyone who didn't know what Steem was (like me) now knows. If cryptocurrencies are built around trust of developers, then Steem has won my trust. Paying back users after being robbed says a lot. Trust, strong developers, and a great idea is asking for success.

I really think Steemit might just be that killer app we have all been waiting for.

Keep chugging along devs.

When we look back, every major cryptocurrency gets cyberattacked. I think it's a growing process.

Any publicity is good publicity :)
