Facebookcoin? Facebook considering cryptocurrency
Adopting some kind of cryptocurrency could be one way to do that. But rather than buying into one that's already established, like Bitcoin, what might be more likely is Facebook creating its own coin.
“There are important counter-trends to this — encryption and cryptocurrency — that take power from centralised systems and put it back into people’s hands. But they come with the risk of being harder to control. I’m interested to go deeper and study the positive and negative aspects of these technologies, and how best to use them in our services.”
*Mark Zuckerberg
Zuckerberg referenced cryptocurrencies in a posting Thursday in which he laid out how he will spend 2018 trying to correct persistent problems including the proliferation of hate speech and misinformation that have dogged his wildly popular social network for the past two years.
The company’s vice-president of messaging products David Marcus also joined the Coinbase platform.
...one of the most interesting questions in technology right now is about centralization vs decentralization. A lot of us got into technology because we believe it can be a decentralizing force that puts more power in people’s hands. (The first four words of Facebook’s mission have always been “give people the power”.) Back in the 1990s and 2000s, most people believed technology would be a decentralizing force.
But today, many people have lost faith in that promise. With the rise of a small number of big tech companies — and governments using technology to watch their citizens — many people now believe technology only centralizes power rather than decentralizes it.

Centralized platforms going decentralized... Typical to mention is the fact that the blockchain has made a tremendous positive impact on the Fintech notable to mention is the growth of Bitcoin and so many other altcoins that has been a true testimony of the awesome effect of the blockchain.
ANY UNCERTAINTY FOR STEEMIT IF FACEBOOK LAUNCHES INTO CRYPTOCURRENCY?
Perhaps, Facebook have been wearied last year sequel to the growth of Crypto amidst doubts and fears that has rocked the digital funds investment.
Recently, I saw a post on how Steemit could be affected if Facebook launches its coin or joins the Crypto community as a social media platform.
Undoubtedly, Facebook is the top most social media although, this is changing as Steemit is gaining a higher momentum larger than what other social media put together had ever gained since inception.
Steemit started in the first quarter of 2016 (March) and has seen an excellent growth in membership in less than 2 years.
FUDs in the creation of maybe a facebookcoin is certainly uncalled for. Innovative measures was a great strategy implemented by Steemit in plunging into the social media space.
Who would ever had envisaged a time where a social media platform would pay users for blogging?
Steemit made a feat which is long lasting and sustainable in the social world.
Facebook and steemit are two sides of one site
There will be no difference where there are those who pay you and there are those who take you
steemit will be the next future location
Yes!
I am confident Steemit will wax stronger before Facebook launches it's coin.
Smart Media Token (SMT) Yet to be launched.
