RE: Do you need a niche? - Thoughts on "making it" on Steem
@meno we always on the same frequency mate, lol. i wrote a article recently addressing the same kind of thing. Mine was more aimed at how we tend to pigeon hole ourselves (into a niche) and neglect the glaringly obvious other talents we posses, visible when we interact with the community.
My message is free your mind from the cultural conditioning, destroy the shackles and be your autonomous congruent self. Show the world the hidden talents you posses. Having a niche area is fine, however we are more that the sum of those parts.
What i believe is that "niche" mentality , while effective in its ways in the past, is an old school method being plugged into a new technology. I think that in time we will see that people want that human connection that goes beyond the persona presented in a blog, on a screen, etc. which is designed in the "niche". We want that connect to "real people" , not a pedestal image of what a person represents.... i believe in time we will see a shift towards this kind of understanding not only on steemit but beyond and into the real world too.
We are in agreeance but landed the conclusion from different angles... you've been kind of doing whatever comes to mind, right? does it not feel liberating? i think it does...
Yeah totally liberating, im just expressing myself in whatever means i feel like which is congruent with my autonomy, this results in mixed reactions at times, but im just being me and showing who i am as a person... like it or leave it, its of no consequence to me ;)
The key to this is to not worry too much what anyone thinks, but in a good way. I know that when i post about my cat many would think its a "shit post", but those that follow me in the "cat community" appreciate it. When i post about cars i would hazard a guess and say that most of those in the cat community following me dont care about that particular post and may see it as a shit post, but my "Automotive tribes" love it. This can be said for the many topics i write articles about and tid bits that i post.
I have said this many times in the past, "we are not starved for options, we are starved for connection". When we show ourselves in our truest form like minded people gravitate to us and create a bond, "that" is a great part what we seek while experiencing the human condition. Its also what can be found here on steemit and it all begins with convincing ones self that we are free to express ourselves openly and authentically, how we choose to do that is completely up to us. However, we have to recondition ourselves from the Learned Helplessness we have experienced in real life interactions with broken systems and societal norms that prevent us from feeling comfortable in this type of self expression. if you have lived your whole life in a cage being outside of it can seem terrifying.... until you do it.
