READ AND LEARN :- MOTIVATION vs MANIPULATION
If the difference between motivation and manipulation is the quenching of thirst, the key for leaders is to look for the thirsty people and identify their thirst. Effective motivators ask themselves, what kind of water do i have to satisfy that kind of thirst ?
WALKING THE FINE LINE
Motivation is getting people to do something out of mutual advantage. Manipulation is getting people to do what we want them to do, primarily for our advantage. Manipulation carries a hidden agenda while Motivation carries an open agenda, allowing for honesty.
Sometimes a fine line separates the two. For example, it is possible to motivate a person without that person knowing what we are doing. We must guard ourselves against becoming manipulators by doing three things:
a). Recognizing how close we are to manipulation
b). Setting a checkpoint, and if the technique doesn't produce a genuine thirst, discounting it.
c). Refusing to use immoral means, even for righteous ends ( if that were posible )
MEANS OF MOTIVATING
What are some motivational means? How can we bring out the best in people without resorting to manipulative tactics?
1). Establish a friendly atmosphere
2). Enjoy people's uniqueness
3). Know a person's capabilities
4). Look for mutual benefits
5). Be honest about your goal
As we honestly and openly offer water to parched people, we are not manipulating, but motivating....
