Understanding The Basics: Thought For The Day #52💭✍
The ability to read a person's attitudes and thoughts by their behavior was the original communication system used by humans before spoken language evolved.
Yet most people believe that speech is still our main form of communication. Speech, evolutionary speaking, has only been part of our communication repertoire only very recently. Researchers have noted and recorded almost 1 million non-verbal cues and signals. In an given message, the total impact of verbal is only about 7% (the words you say), 38% vocal (tone of voice, inflection and other sounds) and 55% non-verbal.
'It's how you looked wen you said it, not what you actually said' In a given business situation or meeting, 60-80% of the impact in that meeting is made through body language. As humans, we are designed to very quickly make judgement on one-another. As humans, we are still dominated by biological rules that control our actions, reactions, body language and gestures. Although we are rarely aware of our body language and the story that it tells.
Why Women Are More Perceptive
When we say that we have a 'hunch' or a 'gut feeling' that someone has told us a lie, we usually mean that their body language and their spoken word don't agree. Women have the innate ability to pick up and decipher on non-verbal signals as the emotive side of their brain is larger, their brain is able to calculate the physical cues much more accurately and therefore more truthfully, as we know that verbal is only 7% of the puzzle!
According to MRI scans, women have a far greater capacity for communicating with and evaluating people than man do. Women have between 14-16 areas of the brain to evaluate others' behavior versus a man's 4-6 areas.
Universal Gestures
The shoulder-shrug: when a person doesn't know or doesn't understand. There are three main parts here: exposed palms to show that nothing is being concealed in the hands, hunched shoulders to protect the throat from attack and raised brow which is a universal, submissive greeting.
Read Gestures in Clusters
Each gesture is like a single word, where words may have multiple meanings. For example, with the word 'dressing' has at least 10 meanings: putting clothes on, a sauce for food, an application for a wound ect ect! It's on;y when you put a word into a sentence with other words that you can fully understand its meaning. The covering of the mouth with hands / fingers could indicate lying.
Look for Congruence
Are body language and and verbal signals congruent? When a person's words and body language are in conflict, women ignore what is said. For example, Freud conveys a situation where a women was expressing her happiness with her marriage however she was sliding her wedding ring on and off her finger...which conveyed that there were marriage problems.
Read Gestures in Context
All gestures should be considered in the context in which they occur. If, for example, someone was sitting at a bus terminal with his arms and legs tightly crossed and chin down and it was a cold winter's day, it would most likely mean that he was cold, not defensive. If, however, the person used the same gestures while you were sitting across a table from him trying to sell him an idea, product or service, it would be correctly interpreted as meaning that the person was feeling negative or rejecting your offer.
You provide a lot to think about here. Have you ever walked into a room and could feel the vibe of the room? These types of things I think are very primal instincts that we have. People can be very manipulative and deceptive so on the surface someone can pretty easily present themselves as someone or something that they are not, but in talking with them, observing mannerisms. Poker plays off on this concept as well.
As far as lying, yes we usually give off cues subconsciously that we are lying and those that know us well like are usually able to tell to some degree. There was a pretty good show on TV (back when I watched TV) called Lie to Me that also show cased this whole concept. Not that any or all of it was fact, but it was very interesting to think about the dynamic.
I would agree that women are usually more perceptive than men. That one is also interesting to think about. Is this due to biological differences, or possibly upbringing and environmental and societal factors? Hard to say.
Fantastic post!
I'm glad that my content can be some food for thought for you! Of course yes, especially when the feeling is very flat and dull. Yes, our body most of the time just simply doesn't lie, as talk can be very cheap nowadays! Yes, being aware of people lying is important to know and yes an interesting concept to know. They are more in touch with their emotive side of the brain and that's the language of the body!

Wow Thanks!
This was nicely done pal. I enjoyed reading it. A lot of times I naturally avoid discussing certain things over a call or a chat but strongly suggest a meet. Most persons do not understand why. I prefer having them, when I can be able to see body tells - because they work better for me. Listening is an art and not everyone is good at it. Some persons listen to reply, so they miss the message. For a wholesome message, one must listen for choice of words, speech, tone, and body language. Thanks for the enlightenment. I just resteemed the post.
Thank you. Yes, having difficult interactions or even interactions in general are more pure when face to face, instead of our relationships becoming a screen on our phone. Yes, there is a significant amount of listening with the need to reply without just hearing and listening.

You are absolutely right, we get 55% of information about a person through non-verbal communication. This was repeatedly said by the famous Australian writer Allan Pease. Facial expressions, gestures and body movements are able to cast off a mask from a person, revealing his true thoughts and feelings. Someone from birth has a good intuition, but if you do not possess it, all that remains is that an experienced psychologist can help to learn to understand body language, to be able to read the thoughts of others.
Yes, this is true! Body language creates a whole story in itself!

My wife how ever seem not to be interested in using it.

Yes, when I was reading the book and typing it up I agreed with it also. Women just seem to know when something is up!

Its like action speaks louder than words.
And silence is golden, but our wives and kids would maybe leave us if we apply it.
Yes. It is important to be mindful of the words that we use. Talk can be very cheap nowadays!

@luppers, Spoken Language is secondary aspect for sure, and Body Language is primary and more conveying aspect. Many times We say Yes with our words but our body language say No because our innerself is saying no and vice versa. People try to be Manipulative with their words but most of the times their Body Language can reveal the truth or true essence. Stay blessed.

Yes that is true. We may speak the words 'yes' but inside we are saying 'no' and the body expresses our inner dialogue so accurately!
