How about a fun-fact about the labware we use?
Most of the glass labware that are used, are made from Borosilicate Glass. The reason that this type of glass is used, is because of its low thermal expansion properties that it has. This is a good thing, because the glasses we use are washed at sometimes high temperatures. We do not want to change the volume of the glass by the heating process, and here is where the Borosilicate Glass steps in. This type of glass won't expand. So it will not shatter when it is heated.
One of the brand names used for this type of glass is Pyrex. As shown in the picture below, this type of glass is not only used for laboratory purposes, but it is also a common product for use in the kitchen.
