"Understanding WhatsApp's Proxy Support: A Guide"
WhatsApp, a popular messaging app owned by Meta, has recently introduced proxy support for users globally. This feature allows individuals in areas where internet shutdowns restrict communication, such as Iran, to continue using the service. In a blog post, WhatsApp stated that this new support puts the power in the hands of users to maintain access to the platform even if their connection is blocked or disrupted. The company also assured users that connecting via proxy maintains the high level of privacy and security provided by end-to-end encryption. This option is now available in the settings menu for those using the latest version of the app.
- To connect to a proxy on Android devices:
- Make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp.
- Go to the Chats tab.
- Tap More options > Settings.
- Tap Storage and Data > Proxy.
- Tap Use Proxy.
- Enter the proxy address.
- Tap Save.
- If the connection is successful, a check mark will appear.
- If the connection is not successful, the proxy may have been blocked. To try again, delete the blocked proxy address
and enter a new proxy address.
- To connect to a proxy on iPhone:
- Make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp.
- Go to WhatsApp Settings.
- Tap Storage and Data > Proxy.
- Tap Use Proxy.
- Enter the proxy address.
- Tap Save.
- If the connection is successful, a check mark will appear.
