If the old guard of steem witnesses take complete control again the number of active users will more than likely continue to dwindle along with the price.

We are in a very precarious position. On one hand we have an unknown quantity and on the other we have the old witnesses who are making decisions like the EIP which includes free flags and the stated goal of normalizing flags. These decisions enrich the largest stake holders (themselves)

The new account numbers have been bolstered by existing users opening accounts funded by Steemit inc, which have only ever been user for attacking real users. Over recent weeks i notice a sharp decline in the number of these accounts actually being used. Presumably to encourage real accounts to support the old guard of witnesses.
