Gonna a be a tough one to sort out. As @steevc says, user experience is important and we can all see how Steemit seems a little unfinished on that side. I think it would be hard to here a specific group of people here, they will just come in proportionally as the platform grows. So I think the conclusion is that you're going to have to be patient while things sloooowly pick up :D

Is that UI going to be configurable and by users, and not developers?
I have some coding skills.. but not in these areas. I can't really go out on those Facebook community pages and start shilling SMT's really.. not without getting load of flack from people.
'Nothing is given for free', they say.. but tokens could come your way if only you would cross-post. How is all this going to be advertised?
Maybe if you convinced one of the admins of the Urbex fanpage on Facebook to join your crusade it would help achieve some interesting results...

That is one way to go about it. It needs an admin with an open mind and the thinking that there's life outside Facebook.
For the most part, it's not their friends commenting .. 'ooh spooky', and the usual, 'where it that located?', but strangers.. so there is hope.
