One of the best ways to gain followers and upvotes, is to just browse around Steemit and find posts that you connect with. Leave a good real comment, and then people will organically follow as they get to know you <3

I have honestly gotten higher upvotes on some of my comments than I have on most posts I make, and often they will follow me as well.
