Why do new accounts copy and paste so much from National Geographic?

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

As some of you might know, I've only been active here for a week.
During that time though, I've noticed something that's been creeping me out a little bit. Maybe it's the whiskey, or maybe it's the lack of sleep, not sure. But I think I'm just going to come out and say that I suspect most accounts on here are, how can I put this politely?

Screw it. Fake.

Most of them, as in 80% . Especially ones that keep pasting stories from National Geographic. Why Nat Geo? I wish I had an answer for you, Family. I really do.
Every time I hit "New" (I won't touch "Trending" or "Hot" with a bilge pole), there they are. Story after story about the curious habits of whatever creature is being showcased.
That yellow rectangle.

That fucking.

Yellow.

Rectangle.

Taunting me, with the number 25, always next to their names, like some sick conspiracy.
Am I the only one who sees this? I refuse to believe that.

You must have seen the plagiarized content backwashed between these accounts over and over again. Where do they come from? Is it some sort of hive-mind? Are they just individuals who figured they'll just copy/paste themselves into all the Steem they can dream of?
Should I just get used to it?

Or more importantly, can they be stopped?

campaign your witnesses for better filters on the feed and yes, they can be out of sight

Awesome suggestion, @rudyardcatling
Will do 👍

sometimes i have an idea lol ... its rare but it happens idea.jpeg

i find some people to be willing to take time but most witnesses have their own idea on how things should be done so you probably have to look around a bit @timcliff certainly has taken more than once the time to answer me in full .. considering the $10 worth of a 100% vote there and thats not the most i can only assume all those people are as good as millionaires already but there's no harm in asking right, this is not the 1950s lol. the only certainty is nothing gets done by sitting on the bench, exchange of ideas is very important if this thing is be kept de-centralized because i have also , sadly, read many up and coming talk very strong trump talk which is a bit scary since that shows they are more interested in leading and power than in helping and community so

i suppose you know where to find them think.png

bottom input is very important since lots of people on top have absolutely no feeling with what life below the clouds actually is ... ganbarrei (im sorry i dont have much votes to spare i'm stretched thin already and a 10 or 20% vote just gets turned to dust, but .. its always good to have people who don't talk in "great post plz upvote thx" :D

see you around

Absolutely, maybe I should start a "Minnow Mafia" haha XD
Ganbarimasu, see you!

HAHAH, i think it's plankton mafia at our level, or so they call it, i feel their whale metafor to be an insult to one of the greatest, peaceful species on earth who are nearly extinct but well ... if and when i get to dolphin (according to their scale) everything above is a bonus, im not really in it for the lambo (i don't even have a drivers license) but i think your comparison fits because basically they behave like wallstreet 1% , which is factually the reason why organized crime is born from necessity and continued by tradition... not too far off the mark there i'm afraid :)

OMG there is someone out there that feels the same way I do. I had a new post in within an hour I had 50 new follows half were Nat Geo spammers the others were from Food Network or YouTube. It's not that hard to type and create half way decent content.

Yes! I know right?
Copy/pasted garbage all over the place.
There are a lot of postings announcing that Steemit now has 1,000,000 accounts, but I'm sure that most of those are dead fish accounts and spam accounts for the free Steem, etc. :/
