RE: EOS AND STEEM SLOT GAMES. TWO ARE GREAT. ...ONE NOT SO MUCH

in #steem5 years ago

Regards, appreciated @mudcat36.

The proliferation of gambling spaces is rampant lately. I think that the blockchain is too valuable a tool to be used so enthusiastically to play games. Especially because this does not provide valuable content to any platform. Although I am aware that it contributes to the movement of capital.

To further obscure the picture, we have the recent event with magic-says. This leaves a lot to think about about Gambling.

All best, Piotr.

Thank you for giving it a read @crypto.piotr. I can see where you are coming from to a certain extent in regards to gambling not adding genuine value to the block chain space. Interestingly though things like bitcoin and other crypto assets did start in the gaming space and grow from there.

There are times when it does feel slightly absurd that technologies like ethereum, eos, or steem are used for something like a gaming or gambling platform. I mean NASA is using block chain technology in it's satellites, and large aerospace defense contractors like Airbus have been using block chain applications since late 2016. So when we think of the broader uses something like a crypto slot does almost seem absurd.

Having said all that not everyone in society who uses a smart phone understands the underlying technology. The same will go for the block chain space someday, and easy to understand platforms like games or casinos are a great way for people to learn or get involved. The gaming and gambling industry in this space will only undermine it's overall health if the space is judged simply on those applications. In my opinion I don't see that happening given all the wonderful applications that are and have been developed.

With all that being said I suppose the seedy side of gambling always does discredit anything involved with it. There are individuals who lack control and don't have the ability to have fun with it as a recreational pursuit. It was gambling and gaming that lead me to purchase my first bitcoin in early 2010 so I suppose I personally derive a sort of sentimental enjoyment from it all. In regards to magic-says I'm afraid I don't know what you're referring to. I tend to catch up on things in the steem world when on the hoof so I am out of the loop on a lot.

Thank you so much for giving my post a read and such a thoughtful reply. Looking forward to your next post as your last one generated a lot of interesting/rewarding discussion.
Kind regards, @mudcat36
