Why Isn't Your Steemit Following And Earnings Growing?

in #steem7 years ago

It is easy to get caught up in your own posts and not look around some and engage with everyone else.  You could spend five hours on your post and wonder why it didn't earn that much.  In this pool meeting I talk about stats and there is a very strong correlation with one stat that will lead to consistent earnings and a growing follower base.  Other users that are mentioned in this pool meeting are @ace108 , @papa-pepper , @stellabelle , @thecryptofiend , and @stackin

Thank you for reading my post and please consider following me @brianphobos

Quite the pool meeting. Just look at my number of posts and my account value and you will see how less posts correlates to lower account value.

Well you must have held on to some Steem Power. At least you have something. But yeah I think that all of us who joined when we did wish that somehow we had nothing to do except go Ham on Steemit and suddenly come out like some of those other users. That was nuts!

Oh for sure. Obviously hindsight is 20/20. I honestly think I just powered up everything since I just couldn't figure out how to cash it out even if I wanted to and when the big rise happened recently I got lucky. Nothing more than luck really.

Hey great video, I was just starting to feel a little discouraged by my progress on here but really inspiring to hear about some of these people that are just killing it on the platform and that stackin sounds interesting such quick growth and putting out so much quality content consistantly day in and day out. I hadn't seen any of his stuff but just followed so curious to check him out.

Not sure if you have one already but would love to see a video explaining voting power. I have a hard time wrapping my head around how your vote decreases in power after so many votes and I wasn't sure whether I should be upvoting alot to help out everyone and spread some love or if I should be doing it less frequently ie does that mean more to a specific user if you really like their content and don't give out as many upvotes?

Anyhow great video man really dug this one

Well once you get past 500 Steem Power you will have a slider bar where when you vote you can turn it down to 50% or 25% or any percentage you want. That will save a little bit of power. But to be honest with you in a lot of ways it doesn't matter a lot right now. If I was you I would just vote like mad to make people feel good even if you voting power is clear down at 20% like mine has been around. When you have less Steem Power you can't earn that much in curation rewards anyways and you vote isn't super impactful financially for the person or yourself so I would say just vote like crazy.

One thing I have been looking at is how well you are doing and how much you are gaining traction. It is tough for sure but I think you would agree with me that it has been way easier than building you YouTube following and earnings initially. I understand the thinking that you should be able to hit the ground running and have success pretty quick on here. Steemit is sort of a weird place in some ways and right now so many people are joining that people are getting lost in the noise in a lot of respects. Just like someone starting a new YouTube channel right now. It would be damn tough to get a big subscriber base. I follow one YouTuber who's channel is sick as fuck and I can't believe this guy doesn't have over a millions subcribers. It is nuts.....but he doesn't.

The URL looks weird but it is Adrenaline Addiction. That dude is epic.

I'm also going to probably do a pool meeting eventually where I talk about a topic I'm going to call the "Insta - Hotties Entitlement Paradox" There are girls that go to U of Arizona and Arizona State that are so hot you almost lose your mind looking at their pictures. but then they will have 2 or 3000 followers and I seriously just shake my head and think "Does this girl not realize that she could have a million followers on here?" But they have an entitlement. They are so hot that they feel that their hot pics are enough and it isn't anymore. There are a lot of really hot girls on there and unless they hustle and really push it the following never blows up.

Now some people would say "well maybe they aren't trying to become big." But if you got a truthful answer out of those girls they would say that it would be awesome to have a huge following. They clearly want the attention.

So how this relates to to Steemit is this. And I'm not talking about you because you are doing a great job engaging and writting comments and learning. But I think a lot of content creators sort of assume that they already made it and their content alone will carry them on another platform just like the hot girl thinks that she will just blow up for being hot. In reality the hot girl still have to get out there and comment and like other people's stuff and try to do collab pics with bigger accounts and go through the grind. I hope that make sense. If I do the post it isn't directed at you because you are doing a great job of connecting and all that.

Hey thanks for the encouragement. Yeah I was a little down yesterday like man I kinda fell into the trap of thinking I join and following explodes, money starts rolling in, etc.

In reality I should be thrilled I been on here for like two weeks at most maybe and am at 180 followers so I think I should probably be really psyched about that as opposed to down about not having earned 10k or something crazy like that.

I think like a lot of the advice I give to people on Youtube, don't get frsutrated because your store isn't killing it 3 weeks in, thihngs take time, etc. Have to remind myself of that. With any platform its going to take time and consistancy to really build that up.

I tried starting a new tag the other day for my Youtube peeps and one guy messaged me and was like dude I used the tag nothing happenned and it kind of brought things back into focus for me like dude thiis tag is 24 hours old, it's not some magic bullet where you use it and your guranteed 10k per post, I told him the goal is to get some more eyes on your content so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle but there's no gurantees of anything.

Anyhow man really digging your content. Really liked the vid you did the other day talking about papa-peper and stackin, I'm gonna start studying guys like those accounts and seeing the type of posts they do, frequency, how they structure their posts and try to start taking some cues and as you poiinted out in the vid spend as much time if not more time focusing on interacting with others and commenting as you do creating your own content.

Love the subtext of you in the pool. It's like look guys how easy it can be...everyone can have this with a bit of effort. So true what you said about 4000 followers on here = a million on twitter or instagram - Steemit is mostly active accounts (I think!)....some day in the not too distant future, everyone who was on here now is going to either be very grateful they took the time to take advantage and build a platform....or not.

I'm still trying to figure out my niche (are niches necessary on Steemit?!...probably best, right?) I'm definitely guilty of not always leaving comments (like on your posts) - just because sometimes I don't know what to say or other commenters have already said what I'm thinking - and better lol. I'm sure lots of Steemians like me out there...but good point. We can only gain - or worst case, stay neutral by commenting :-)

I really like your comment as I too have been wondering about the niche thing. On Youtube I'm pretty much entirely business and entrepreneurship type content as that's kind of what my audience expects. Starting on a new platform I definately want to continue making that type of content but also want to do more writing and blogging and just doing stuff on random stuff I find interesting. I'm not sure why exactly but I don't really feel the need to settle into a niche on this platform. That said I'm new so still figuring it out

Since Steemit is so new in the scheme of social media platforms - I think it's ok and even encouraged to post on a variety of topic. Since posts are categorized by the tag you chose - but your entire blog isn't - posting outside your niche won't hurt you the way it would on say...Twitter. That said, isn't part of business relaxation and pursuing hobbies? I'm sure your existing audience would love to see you doing whatever you want! (hey 'fun' writing on here can still make you money :-) )

Yeah while I love business I have all sorts of odds interests and obsessions so nice to mix things up. That's one of the things I'm really enjoying on here.

Awesome man - welcome :-) One thing if you don't know already (you probably do) - you can only vote so many times at 100% - and your upvoting power diminishes. I've been going crazy with my upvoting and now my 100% is worth half of what it was 2 days ago lol.

I was wrestling with how to handle this as well but currently my vote is worth next to nothing so whether someone gets 5 cents from me or a penny it doesn't really matter that much in terms of money but I think an upvote regardless of how much it pays makes people feel good so I been trying to spread a lot of love and make sure new people aren't getting discouraged or feeling like their content is getting lost in the shuffle or not getting viewed. Maybe as my account grows in power I'll get a little pickier about what gets an upvote as to reward the best stuff a bit more

Absolutely. Everyone loves the dopamine surge of seeing a 'like' -whether it's worth $0 or $100 (though, a $100 like would certainly double the dopamine lol).

I blog about a lot of different things but there are certainly niches. There are a couple people who mainly just blog about food.

There are others who there whole blog is about crypto currencies.

The thing that makes me stand out or more visible is because I do the pool meetings and no one else does that to suddenly I become a recognized person on the platform.

It will be hard to find your grove but honestly I just blog about anything and enter the meme challenges and picture challenges and just go crazy over commenting on stuff.

Great advice. Consistency is key . I think the pool initially attracts followers - but its your informative content that keeps us following!

That is good to know. The pool meetings are kind of time consuming by the time I render and upload and all that. It is good to know it is helping out.

Totally! Not like you need a minnow to tell you keep up the good work lol. But keep it up!

I like the name pool meetings. First time hearing about them... very cool.

That's because I invented the concept! 😎 I think that world leaders should have pool meetings. That way they will be on better terms!

It's a pretty great invention. It was fun to watch. You should swim around a little, too, lol.

Lately the vast majority of my Youtube videos have been me in the car talking where as I oftentimes will try to do stuff in the backyard or screencasts, just been crazy busy and that's been the only time I could fit in vids but I definately gotta start doing less in my car lol. A pool is definately cooler and more memorable than the inside of my hyundai elantra lol. Unfortuately I don't have a pool as I'm in IL but the place I bought does have a hot tub so maybe I'll be the hottub dude lol

Yeah so I thought a lot about this. Driving in a car and talking is actually very engaging for a person. The first time I saw that done was in 2009 for a guy who was pitching a real estate investment book. I realized that people get locked onto it because there is stuff going by outside.
When I came up with the pool meeting concept I thought in my mind that maybe people will get hypnotized by the little waves and get locked in the same way people get locked into watching someone in the car.
Also I think I'm going to get a blow up dolphin to add to the pool as well. I have the killer whale. Then on down the line I might just order a blow up sex doll and it will randomly float by behind me and people will be like WTF!!! did you see that sex doll!!!! Hahahha

Funny thing with the car thing. For me I think I do the car alot mostly for efficiency kill two birds with one stone while im driving to the office knock out a video. I'm sometimes a little uncomfortable just talking to the camera so also driving gives me something to keep me somewhat occupied as opposed to just sitting there staring at the camera lens.

That said I've had a few people saying to mix it up or occasionally people will comment on what's in my backseat. I had kind of a funny idea to hire a couple hot girls off craigslist or backpage or something and just have them sitting in my backseat as I drive and make my video, but i thouoght it would be funny to like not even acknowledge the fact they were there and just wait for comments like dude wtf you got 3 girls in bikinis in the back lol. Just something goofy to mix things up a bit and keep people entertained.

I have a great backyard for a backdrop but unfortunately live on a busy street so road noise is a bit of a pain but I'd like to do some more backyard vids

Yeah that would be hilarious if you had some hotties just sitting in the back while you did the video. You would be like Tai Lopez where there are just these random Insta-hotties sitting around pretending to listen to him. LOL

ha, I never thought about that but yeah who's all these 20 something chicks on his plane with him just sitting around him smiling as he talks about life.

He cracks me up and I applaud him. It is very well played. Also notice that when he is in his leased house that there are always people standing around listening to him talk. It caused people to subconsciously believe that what he is saying is more important and that people are always listening when he talks. People have a herd mentality so when they see others doing a certain thing they follow. It is oftentimes more effective that way than when he talks to the camera by himself.

Another thing I have noticed is that these guys who have cookie cutter mental masterbation advice can gain a far bigger following then someone who gives real advice like us. The reason is because when it comes down to actually taking action and getting on Amazon or eBay or getting on Steemit and posting....... well that is too hard. That would require work. But if someone like Tai has several nice leased cars and a leased house and talks about how you can make money in real estate and how there are 69 steps to becoming rich people just eat it up.

I have no ill will towards Tai Lopez. He recognized these things and played the game very well.

This video helps alot. Sometimes I see posts, and I just vote them up if I like them, I don't always have a detailed response in my thoughts, but I understand what you are saying. I am new to this platform, but so many people are givng their advice on how to make money on this site. Some say to vote and comment, others say you need to increase your follower counts, and others have stategies to use technology to auto vote posts, and really, I believe that we should all try to upvote 'organically' as much as posstible, because like you stated in the video, people have gone through a lot of trouble to make good and relevant content, but they are not getting the recognition that they deserve!

Many people, like me, are looking for real responses from people, they want their work to be appreciated; its not just about the money for them. I will definitely try to be more responsive in the future!

It is sort of a combination of all that stuff. I do run an autovoter that upvotes some of the people I follow. It makes things more efficient. I can't get to every new posts because there are so many. But I upvote a ton of stuff manually as well. Like your comment! lol

Thank you very much, I realize how much harder it can become for people who have more followers, and for the 'whales', but I think the time and effort is well worth it. I am not ready to do the advanced techniques that you many others are doing, I'm just trying to figure out how this platform works, because honestly some of it is above my head, but I will keep on learning, and I did learn a thing or two from you, so thanks.

Once you have been around for awhile stuff starts to make more sense but if you are newer to crypto currencies then certain things can be confusing for sure.

What are some upvoters if I wanted to check out something like that? How does it work exactly is it a website that you give permissions to to access your account? Is it safe? Any particular one to trust?

So I use https://steemvoter.com/ It is safe. You are only letting them user your posting key so let's pretend the site got hacked. Well someone could maybe upvote posts and comment on stuff and maybe post something as you but they wouldn't be able to get into your wallet.

Okay thanks for the heads up. I think that's how steepshot was as well just the posting key. I downloaded the app for that but found I was basically having to go back on steemit to add tags and/or do a writeup so I figurued what's the point and ditched the app

yeah I haven't tried Steepshot yet but everyone's review of it was basically the same. That they then had to just get on the computer to adjust it.

Yeah I kind of expected it to be a different site or interface altogether. I was kind of surprised when the photos I posted wound up on my blog feed. I personally would prefer to keep more written and video content on my blog feed so if I were to use Steepshot like Instagram for example I think my feed would get bogged down with photos since its obviously easier to create more photo content than written content. Nothing necessarily wrong with that I guess but just not what I was goign for. If they could somehow segment steemit into steepshot and steemit and they woudl stay seperate I may use it.

There is a way for them to separate it ultimately if it becomes a problem. There is a tag that signifies where it came from when it gets on the STEEM blockchain. If Steemit.com decided to make it so it only shows certain content they could. Or what makes more sense is to let it be user driven and put it in the settings to people can either decide to have other stufff show up on their regular feed or to not show it.

I'm always here boss, good video. Tons of people can learn from this 🙌🏼💪🏼💯

When I looked at your post stats I was kind of blown away that you had almost caught me that fast. That is pretty impressive for sure! Going Ham and bringing home the Bacon!

My mannnn, lets for 🐷 And bringin home the🥓. 😂😂😂

You speak the truth.

The quality of comment is also important. You should aim to say something constructive (even critical) and not just a throwaway comment like 'Nice post!'.

Yeah I agree. It is when that person has something of value to add to the conversation that really builds that relationship.

agree

...

Just kidding @sroka87 I totally agree with you. I'll get a notification I got a comment and be excited to check it out and it will be one word lol.

cool.... i really learned a lot from your video. I believe steemians should read this. So many steemians do not even comment on votes. they do not engage at all

This is true. A lot of people just pass by without saying anything,.

and they miss several opportunities by just that simple act.

Steemit is such a transparent social platform! Put in the work, be honest and be authentic and you'll be rewarded. Engaging, offering value and be a real person, and people will want to follow you.

Treat it as socializing in real life, imagine sitting in front of that person and say something of value! Thanks for this video :)

Thank you, I will implement this.

You are welcome.

from the pool xD xD

Yep! Everyone has fun at the pool right? LOL

when there s water around, our body is releasing all negative energy - so its fun and relaxing

This seems to be true. I love swimming under water. It is like being in a world that I'm not supposed to exist in. LOL
