Making a game one post at a time
A Reintroduction
Looking back through my posts, I had a previous devlog that wound up being a whopping singular post long. In that time I've completed that project to the extent that I never expected to have it published. This time around, I'm not taking chances with assets that are owned by people wanting to be paid (I don't hold that against anyone just not practical).
One of the biggest challenges in artistic ventures is when starting out and staring at the blank canvas only limited by imagination. Since the target is to mobile, we can start with what the generic appearance might be; on screen controls, a HUD for the player to keep tabs on their progress, an approximate size of the players and enemies, and for good measure a few of the objects that will need to be considered at some point down the line.
While it doesn't appear as much, there is a starting point that will allow for further refinements.
The game
At this early stage, is little more than the premise of the game.
As a survival story, the player takes control of a major battleship in the Space Force, who finds itself transported to a distant part of the galaxy with a singular goal, to make it home. The problem, they don't know where they are and the galaxy contains much more life than was assumed.
In order to survive the trip will require scavenging, mining, or collecting resources that will be needed to survive.
Goals
I hope to maintain a log of the progress and challenges that come up as a novice / hobby developer.
This will include all elements, from drawing the players, enemies, weapons, levels, items; to programming them all into a game and the challenges and changes that are sure to arise in that process. Until ultimately cleaning up the project and adding in those elements that make the appearance of taking place in a living universe; the sounds and music, cut scenes, and even down to the particle effects that show impacts and give the weight to the entities.
Final Thoughts
I am really interested in anyone's thoughts, even though at this point there's not a whole lot to comment on, aside from poor grammar.
Until next time.
Thanks for reading.
