A small detail, though: the UI shows the node is in the US, but it's actually in Amsterdam. Apart from that it's all good.

I'm not sure what you mean by "third party witness"... The tools only deal with the official client that it gets from github.
At the time I thought the witness was part of the new account recovery process. I've read more about witnesses since then. My bad. :)
