Is HF21 really for the "Community"?

Here's the thing about new stuffs; it often comes with uncertainties that may be positive or negative. The Post by @steemitblog doesn't really divulge much about HF21, well, other than the fact that there's going to be Lower rewards and the glorious downvote button. This makes me wonder though, how's this generally going to be good for the community? because I assume that's what we're suppose to be.

The word "community" is probably the most word on this platform and a lot of times, I wonder if people actually know what it means. Steem blockchain is supposed to be a community, it is supposed to work towards creating a fair playing ground for everyone but from all indication, it is doing the exact opposite of what a community should do.

@theycallmedan has been waxing lyrical about "new steem", started a campaign on Twitter that has people making memes and stuff but there are still so many unanswered questions and observation I'd like to point out;

  • How will reducing rewards be of benefit to the entire community?
  • The proposed reward system favours people with higher stake.
  • What steps will be taken to regulate bidbots?
  • The hardfork is coming at a time when engagement and steem value is super low, is reducing rewards for content creators actually going to help the community?
  • There's literally no difference between downvotes and flagging, why make a big deal out of it?
  • Curation rewards will increase, so that's a positive.

Thoughts

The whole Hardfork thing seems like another scheme that the rich and powerful use to keep the 99% down and I really hope I'm wrong. I've been feeding on crumbs for a long time now and it hasn't bothered me; I get to earn something from the content I create as opposed to Twitter and Facebook, so I can be grateful for that. I have also made a couple of decent connections and met some interesting people I would never have met anywhere else, so that's a positive as well.
The issue about HF21 has most of the community nervous and only Whales seem to be excited about the impending changes. Should it go through and it actualizes the fear of myself and the other thousands of concerned steemians, this place is going to become a ghost town(Remember the Exodus of HF20). Like I said earlier, I hope that doesn't happen because I feel connected to this platform and want it to succeed. Time will tell.
