Someone just sent me a private massage after reading my post, after chatting with him for a while, he invited me to read his blog and drop any comment on any of his articles that tickles my fancy. Need I mention that he has been on the platform for a year now, had has 1000+ followers but his posts still picks up cents and on a good day less than $20, and he didn't hide the frustrations, that inspired this post. What then makes a post to attract followers to upvote it. Need i say also that this fellow was a good writer and a poet, so it was not that he was writing uninteresting post. So then the question, what is the problem.
My people has a saying that : if the haircut is not good, but the clipper is in good position and the Barber knows his skills, then what is the cause of the bad haircut? So to answer the puzzle, here are some possible theories as to the cause.

People seek numbers on steemit instead of value .

Truth be told, we all are here because of our various vested interests, but we quickly tend to forget one big factor; every human is a selfish being. If the fellow I mention above can have a 1000+ followers and still his post are making a few above a newbie, there is more to it than just having "followers". Every time i chat with a new guy/girl here, i discourage them from the mistake of "follow me and i will follow you back" phenomenon, because if someone is following you just on the basis of quip pro que, he/she will not be eager to read your posts or even remember your user name in the first place. So it goes beyond having followers, its all about your followers knowing you and knowing your content. Just like Jesus said in the good book" ...my sheep knows me and listens to my voice..." Your followers should know you based on what you offer them and just to do you a favor.

Vested Interest

Like i said earlier, we all have vested interest here on steemit and do our best to protect that. Have you ever wondered why the "big boys" always gets more votes and comments even when they posted just a bunch of pictures and wrote few words on it while you spent hours evens days trying to come up with original post and at the end the rich gets richer and the poor gets screwed. Well here is it, every jellyfish here is trying to have a bit of the wheal and the wheals knowing that are keeping their distance, even the Dolphins are not friendly anymore, they no longer carry a kid on their back and swim. Protection of vested interest. Funny enough, the jellyfish has not realized it yet.

Consistance

Every successful steemian I know, I know his/her blog to be dominated with one concept in particular. Many when they jump onto steemit, they hop around many topics, photography today, cooking tomorrow, wiled life the next. Am not saying that random thought is not good once in a while but its also good to cave a niche for your self. By so doing, you can brand your blog and that will make you to be consistence and engaging. And this can also get you some votes.

These are what I think can lead to poor upvote of a post even when the writers has much followers and here are a few solutions I discovered.

Have friends not followers


Like I stated earlier, don't seek for numbers more than values. The $s followers, its all number, have friends, good content and engage with your pals here, these are values and it matters much than the digits. One of the good things about Steemit is that it allows you to cut across countries, boundries, and status and you should take advantage of it instead of using that just as a means to an end. Engage with your friends/followers and they will do more than just vote for you.

Do unto others as you would want them to do to.


Some wants to be recognized but they turn a blind eye to other. Find time to read other steemian's post and make it count and you will be amazed to the outcome.
