A Plea To The Whales: Hold More Contests!
@dantheman's recent post that discouraged upvoting #introduceyourself has caused a little bit of an uproar. How are people supposed to get Steem now that those introduction posts are assumed to be catfishing?
Here's my suggestion. Go with what @lukestokes has recently done and hold more contests! This is a much more direct way to ask people for the content that you want. For a while now the #marijuana tag has been getting traction simply because @berniesanders is known to upvote them. Instead of forcing users to guess what content it is that you whales want to see, why not just say it out in the open?
I think I speak for many in the community when I say that we want to know what the whales want.
Some contest ideas:
- Give your best reason or explanation for making marijuana legal
- Create the best photo that has a logo of Steem in it
- Create a tutorial video with a Steem logo in it that's not related to the top 10 tags.
- Create a funny Steem meme
- Find a security flaw (bug bounty)
I hate this mindset of posting what the whales want. As if their the kings of the castle in we are there to entertain them for silver coins.
Yes they have the power to incentivize people to post quality posts but we don't need to follow their lead. Just post what is bet for you.
problem with that is that the money the whales hold doesn't spread around. it stays with them only.
people will upvote what they want anyway
