[Steem-Chess] Steemit, let's play chess! Game #1

in #steem-chess8 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone! This is something I have been planning lately and wanted to present to you the idea in this post and at the same time get it started!

Image Source

I noticed the chess figures are also unicode so they can be posted onto your Steemit Posts. It was really difficult to get them to align properly with the empty (white/black squares) so this is the best I could come up with after many frustrating attempts.

Guidelines of Steem-Chess

  1. I post the board as a comment with the title "Move 1 - White" with my move already in place.
  2. The participants choose Blacks move by replying to my comment with "Black Pawn H7 -> H5"
  3. Every move (after the 2nd) is given a certain amount of time to gather a reply move or give more users a chance to participate until I accept the highest voted move and make my next one.
  4. When I make the new comment with "Move 2 - White" both your move and mine will be updated on the board.

Additional Info

For the first 2 moves the first reply is the deciding one. Afterwards it will rely on vote value after elapsed time.
The game can last for a long time (even after the payout timer of the post)

Rewards

Other than the rewards your reply moves have gathered, there will be Steem to grabs for the participant with most votes on comments! To keep it a community thing, I think this method is best to use as users will strive to want to beat me and win a prize.

Rewards are divided like this:

5% of the Rewards the post makes go to the user with most moves of the last 10 moves before a victory. (in case someone else finishes the game but another user has most valued moves in total so far)
30% will go to the Winner. (That means the user who's total moves have been voted on mostly throughout the entire game)
10% to 2nd place Winner. (The user with second most vote value on his moves throughout the entire game)
5% to 3rd place Winner.

The Season

30% of all SP rewards from these posts will (thanks to the hardfork) be divested and put aside for The Season Table.

Season table: 1st place Winner receives 3 points, 2nd place 2 points and 3rd place 1. Stale match awards all three users 1 point. Loss awards 0 points.

Players are placed in a table after each game (example):

playerg1g2g3g4Total
@chessmaster3000233210
@blackpawn8631239
@kingofqueens12115

The "Host" can not participate in The Season Table himself. But if the host wins the game, only 5% goes to the "Loser" with most vote value on moves and only 10% of the SP goes into The Season's "pot" after the game.

During a stale game, participants are all awarded 1 point but receive 30% of the posts rewards and 20% goes the The Season's "pot".

If you want to start your own Steem-chess you can feel free to use my template or refer back to it. Let me know in the comments below if you want the "board" copy-able in written text form. Make sure to let others know how you plan on dividing the rewards before the game starts.

Let the games begin!

Its really surprising how good this board(table) looks on the phone compared to the PC.

You are right, I am really thinking of implementing steem games concept I mentioned in my post on eSteem mobile app, so you can play and feel the game without worrying what's happening behind and how posts and comments look like. Let's see these how these experiments play out and we can use experience gained into building actual game.

Sounds awesome!

Confirmed. This is still considered Move 1 from Blacks perspective. Move 2 will be commented shortly.

Also no need to post the board when replying to a move.

great, it is still good for viewers to see current state of game. But if you post board, then no need from black side :)

Yeah, plus it makes the reply moves from different people easier to find and for readers easier to vote for which move they want to go further. :)

Was also thinking, during later moves when there might be more time in between moves to reply to the ones who have made the last move to remind them that the new move is up.

With time maybe we could get this automated. :)

exactly, thanks for bring this up and starting this. I have mentioned these type of games here: https://steemit.com/steem/@good-karma/turn-based-games-on-steem-blockchain-strategy-realtime-open-source-browser-based
And this will be first test case :)

Move 2 White: Bishop F1-> G2, Black: Black Knight G8 -> F6

Confirmed. Move 4 on its way.

Move # 4 is out (on another post this time because of an update)
Every active participant will receive a reply notification for the next move, unless they ask not to.

move 3 black : knight B8>C6

Move 1 - White Pawn G2 -> G3

Your turn, Steemit!

PS. All you have to do is move a black piece by announcing which one and from where to where.

Like my example above. Then I post Move 2 and repeat.

Awesome IDEA!!

It just started. Just a reply to Move 1 is enough. :)

You are black!

Hoping there will be some participants when I wake up, need a nap. :P

Move 1 White: Pawn G2->G3, Black: Pawn D7->D5.
Move 2 White: Bishop F1-> G2, Black:

MOVE 2 Black Knight G8 -> F6 or (Nf6)

Confirmed.

This was the second (first come first served) move. From now on forward the reply move with the highest vote value will be the one to go further.

PS. This will occur during a later time as I have been up for 20h and need some rest. (the game can continue even after the payout)

What did you mean with (Nf6) btw? :P

Standard Shortening Knight to N, to f6 square.
Queen=Q
Knight=N
Bishop=B
Rock=R
King=K

squares with small letters (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h)
when take happens (Qxf6, Kxg3 or gxh3 for pawn)
when move within same letter vertical or horizontal (Qe3+ from Qe2 square for example or Rfe8)

but never mind if it is complicated.

Thank you so much for this post ! Good article ! I will follow you !

I'm about a week into a match on here. #chessmatch.
I wait 24 hours between moves though.
Yours seems to be a little faster paced.

Oh nice! I remember the first post about it!

Yeah mine will go a bit quicker but been thinking about updating it at random times to give a wider audience a chance at participating.

I'll link your main post to mine as well and hope it inspires more users to start playing on the blockchain! :)

I have a winner takes all thing going on too. You're being a little more even with the payouts, which might be wise.
I have a clear favourite surging ahead and want to keep the others engaged too.

I'm trying to come up with a way to help visualize the board better. I like the real chess board model you have there in your posts. I wonder where my chess board is at. Should go look for it, lol. Would probably be a good idea to use both real and unicode. (to make sure that even if imgur/youtube/gifs would go down, the moves would be forever on the blockchain through text or in this case unicode. :D

I'm not too concerned about retaining them forever. Its more just a fun test to acquaint myself with steemit, boost sp, followers, rep etc. I think I have some bots auto-upvoting my posts now too, which is great.
My main opponent, blocktrades has 3/4mill in sp, which makes his upvote worth about $15, so he's kind of sponsoring the whole thing.

Cool! Thanks!

I actually found my old chess board and might make an update to the post - will add a mention to yours in there. :)

Ah yeah, I'm all for even-ish distribution :P

Their is also the 30% of the SP the post makes that goes into a "season jackpot" sorta thing after a certain amount of games the users with the most moves and wins will win even more Steem/SP.
